There are two types of people in the world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data sets
Hey, I should try that one (then avoid the beating). I use around 13 quite regularly (Te Irirangi, Ti Rakau and entering/exiting the city on Nelson/Hobson) just for work, then the total climbs to probably about 20 when country riding is included.
In my countrywide travels I've probably done most! Statistically... I'm fucked![]()

Ah, the crux of the problem.
If we increase our skills ourselves instead of expecting the gubbermint to do it, the nation would be a safer place to use the roads in.
Why do we give control to someone else? Because that way we absolve ourselves of responsibility.
Just sayin.
Reliance on other (civilian) people, is no better than reliance on Government.
After all, how many sober people who've done defensive driving training (etc) have been killed by other people who were drunk and/or just crap drivers/riders (etc)?
I'm not saying we shouldn't all up-skill ourselves, but it's also silly to not expect/want "the Government" to spend some of our tax dollars fixing the clearly dodgy road situations.

There are no bad roads. Just bad people.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?
That's too simplistic.
Even where the real problem is "bad people", in some cases it is easiest to protect the "good people" by changing the "(not) bad roads".
Just look at how many people still can't do something as simple as indicate properly on a roundabout. You think you can fix all the roading issues through education and training?

Mate's wife killed at #1.
Probably mostly due to idiot driving (not seeing/ignoring compulsory stop) but even so, I'm happy if they spend some money to reduce the risk.
I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.
These stats are absolute numbers. Wouldn't it make more sense to have crashes per number of users of each intersection?
