Slim: let's keep in touch about this. I'll pm you. I may be able to get a deal through a mate, but am happy to look at Motomail if we can get a better deal there.

I agree with Slim that regardless of your experience or bike, high quailty riding gear is always a good idea.
could'nt agree more with you both, but I don't have that cash I'm afraid also I'm sure my helmet will do the job, remember I'm only gonna be doing like 50ish

    Awesome looking helmet!

I favour that artistic design over the common "dungeons & dragons" type look you see so often.

    Enjoy the look...

Before you bag the Shoei distributor too much, just be aware that its not always there fault. You mhave to accept that New Zealand is such a small market that we are pretty low on the pecking order for some of these factories. US MX gear like Fox Racing is another example. The distributor may place an order for what they feel they may be able to sell. How many new Shoeis would you sell in New Zealand, be less than 100 wouldn't it? You then try and split this figure between all the different sizes and colours and models. Youre talking maybe 2-3 helmets in a certain colour, model, size. Then the factory needs to have all the full range available when you order, are they going to make 2 or 3 helmets just for NZ? no, they'll send what they have so again you may miss out.
Good to see the prices are reasonable but with the NZ$ around 0.67c US so they should as it wasn't that long ago it was around 0.45c US thats a hell of a percentage difference isn't it? Theres no way a top Arai or Shoei should be around $1400 with the current exchange rate but sadly these prices don't seem to reflect the change in the NZ$.

    Import Duty

have just had a look at http://www.customs.govt.nz/importers...ms+charges.asp and motorcycle helmets have 17% duty on them

I have brought 4 helmets in from overseas and carried them with me and never been charged for one yet

its a lottery if ya do get charged but be wary of this figure just in case ya buy one via the net and then get pinged when it arrives in the mail.

I agree the shops are making some seroius dosh on mark up but hey it costs plenty to run a V8 Holden and have a holiday home

You're right, Igor, they won't sting you for one helmet if you are carrying it. But they will tax you on mail order. It is to do with import duties versus the personal duty free allowance for travellers, plus tax does not apply to used goods. All anyone has to do is tell the man that their new helmet was used whilst on holiday.
