    Reprogaming imported radar detectors

Does anyone know what is involved in reprograming radar detectors direct imported from USA to suit NZ conditions? if this can be done there are big savings in importing as opposed to buying locally. Cheers.

The only programming needed depends on how many false alerts you are prepared to accept. The old X and K bands are no longer used in NZ and depending on what detector you are considering, it is usually quite simple to select these off. There is no advantgae in importing one your self, as there are a number of parrallel importers already selling top of the line detectors at a very good price. Search the forum here for "discountbay" for a top deal.

I believe it is possible and can be reprogrammed at a good price. But its proberbly better to get a detector that you know is for NZ conditons cause if something goes wrong you can send it back.

BTW, are you planning on speeding, lol

Hi Podo just to let you know i've got a "Cobra" detector for $200 and it is secure on the bike at high speed, bumps etc. It has voice alert which i can hear easily or you can put a ear piece on it if you want. If you are going to use it in all weathers you can shrink wrap it to keep it water proof.
If you want one you can find them on Trademe, this is the link for it if your interested http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/0...n-34900115.htm
Give this a go,if no luck get back to us as my partner works for the company that sells them.
    Cheers
