Yamaha TY 250Z - last of the TYs

Anybody here familiar with these bikes? Never seen one before & never seen one for sale in NZ.

ive seen them pop up on trademe every now and then-I like the look of the later model red n white ones 1985ish....think they were available with a 350cc eng too-if so that's the one I'd go for!-make a good 'get the cows in' bike.........trials riding isn't for me,too much skill req!

That sums up my intentions reasonably well. Looking for a light, agile, trail bike but still need a semblance of seat. Modern trials bikes are too radical.
I found out that Sherco used the 250 engine until 2008 so must be ok for spares.
And yeah, the idea with a bike like that is for us to try & develop some skills.

You could look at a GasGas pampera semi trials bike , got the older trials feel but with modern engineering.

That's a bike I'm interested in, too. Sadly the only ones I have seen advertised have been mangled. Instant alarm bells.

The TY piqued my interest because I may have the opportunity to import one (or more) at the end of the year. Still very popular and quite common in the UK, France & Spain but do not have that classic value yet so reasonably priced.
    We shall see what happens.

I'm stretching the memory a bit here but if it serves, and you are looking at TY's the 175 was a much better bike.
    Stock is best

The TY 175 was probably the most usable of the twin shockers, the most versatile. I reckon the DT 175, which has the same motor, is probably one of the best trail bikes I've ever ridden.
Thing is with the TY 250Z it's in limbo. Can't be ridden in classic or vintage trials & much better bikes available for clubmans events. Consequently, a good one is much cheaper than a knackered "classic twin shock".
It's a water cooled mono shock with alloy frame & semblance of seat. Perfect for us to muck about on.
