I can't say i have had a problem starting the 350 once I learnt the trick.
Just open the throttle minutely and it starts first time, or just use the kick start.
The new freeride we have is just press the button.
KTM have tried to improve the issues, with higher wattage starters and a couple of other mods, but the link is talking about the slipping bendix gear issue, which is fixed by lazer welding it to the shaft on the Freeride starter.
That link also reminds me of why I don't live in the UK anymore. The vid at the bottom is a prime example of the shithouse riding that is available for most people in the UK, they get nothing like the riding and trails we have over here. I've been to that track and it was so fecking depressing.
It's one of the reasons why, whenever I'm on a ride like Waikaretu, I stop for an appreciation moment and just remind myself how bloody lucky I am (and we are).
It may have been the bendix mechanics right from the start. Replacing the electric motor with a higher wattage one and increasing the capacity of the battery didn't really fix the problem of the 'warped' bendix gear preventing the required crank speed to fire up the motor.
There we go, I wonder if it's the FR Bendix
