    KTM 525 exc subframe

    Hi
Can anyone comment on the feasibility of putting a subframe of a bigger KTM model that can accomadate a passenger on a 525 exc so I can take the wife on the back?

    Cheers
    Matt

It's a 525, you reckon she'll still be there when you stop?

Dunno, you'd have to take yourself to the local ktm shop and have a measure up. Suspect you'd have more luck making a new one from scratch, there's not that much to them

Have same problem with XR, says in manual 100kg max rider weight.

Guy did dusty butt with his mrs on the back of his XR with no problems.

Nup. The EXC frames are quite different from the LC4/LC8 & they would cost moonbeams anyway. As Ocean1 sez, get one made - I'd take the existing one to a good engineer/welder & get them to make a heavier duty cromoly one. Might be easier to buy the missus her own bike

Anyway to strengthen one you got ?

Would a heavier duty cromoly subframe be ok to attach to XR aluminum main frame ?

Don't see why not, Rosie's WR250R has exactly that factory. Mind you I remember talking luggage/racks/subframe strength etc with an XR650R owner a while back & he reckoned that the main frame mount points were a bit borderline for hanging a big load off so might need extra metal adding there too.

On my first XR previous owner cut subframe in half and inserted steel rods in each side and rewelded, worked a treat with my custom rack
