42nd Traverse. Could I do it on a trail bike? Does the bike have to be road legal?

Just thinking I would like to give it a go on my KDX. Have done it a few times on a Mountain Bike. Obviously I would need somebody to drop me off and pick me up.

yeah bro, years ago we use to trailer there from Taupo ....
spend the day there hooning around and get home absolutely knackered we had old xr200 250, xt250, pe, it,... good fun.
we use to go in the tongariro end and end up back there

I recommend starting from the Tongariro end if it's been wet or your first time on the 42nd. I've riden solo in summer but wouldn't now as it's isolated and can get freezing cold. The Owhango end was in excellent condition at Anzac weekend - we didn't go right thru.

Did it early April starting from Owhango. Made it through on the V-Strom...but not planning on taking her back through there anytime soon...
