Travel insurance if riding a motor bike overseas?

Southern Cross Travel insurance only provides cover if riding a bike under 200cc

I am trying to work a budget at the moment for an overseas trip. Can someone suggest a travel insurance company that would provide cover for riding my 990 overseas?

Edit. I understand 1Cover will cover the rider but not a pillion?

You could try ringing a broker, have a friend in the trade but out of town at moment.

I used ALLIANZ for Aussie trip, was about $60 for 10 day trip, hope that helps Mike. That was just personal cover, bike not included.

If you have home & contents with NZi. State or AMI, the NZI policy covers it too, I believe.

Read the policies carefully. They may have changed, but when I went through it in 2011, there was a big difference between your own bike, rental bike, tour groups, and what sort of riding (track, middle of nowhere, or regular).

I didn't have to arrange anything extra, as there was travel insurance on the credit card used to book the airfares via ASB, so only double checked, and it was OK.

I looked at a range of options prior to my ride through Patagonia for a month. Prices for motorbike cover were horrendous and so I opted for no insurance. After all it is risk - I once had an insurance pay-out of $30k when my daughter fell of a bicycle in Switzerland and fractured her skull. I still decided that the costs for my Patagonia trip were excessive.

I have asked my insurance agent for options. No insurance is not an option.

When we visited Oz with the bikes we ended up with the travel insurance offered as an add-on by Air NZ. We double checked that we were covered on the bikes & the price was right.

    Cheers

I've just back from a few days riding in South Africa, and I used QBE, who don't appear to have any restrictions.

We have had major troubles trying to get TI for our trip to Mexico.
Even though it is a fully guided tour with TEC and support vehicles no one would touch it.

ended up going with Fintel, personal only, no bike cover.
We did find other ones but as soon as we said we will be going off road they said no.

I have told insurance broker that we will be riding on sealed and unsealed public roads.

I used World Nomads for my recent trip to India - riding a Royal Enfield as part of an organised tour.

have organised something similar recently. ASB has changed underwriters last year and doesn't cover (some) moto riding anymore....

AMI travel insurance did it for me.
