    http://mybikemanuals.com/yamaha/yama...wners-manuals/

Anything black and round for the tyres

    But look here:
    http://www.bits4bikes.co.nz/parts/Yamaha/2039.aspx
BT45 front and BT39 rear seems like a good option.

Or even better would be BT45 front and rear:

Very good choice, same one I made. I get mine serviced at Red Baron at the suggested intervals.

    Suggest replace tyres with

Front Bridgestone BT45 at 32 PSI
    REAR Bridgestone BT45R 36 PSI

tyres will be slippery for the first 200 k's - take it very easy till you will notice the tyres sticking much better.

always let them warm up, the originals never warmed up much, they didnt wear much either did 4500 k's with almost no wear

keep an eye on the pressures weekly at least

Also get a spare stop/brake light 12 V 21/5 W BAY 15d, from Repco or Supercheap etc put it on bike as a spare the tail light portion fails, mine at 6000 K.

got to sort out a source for the Halogen headlamp 35 W - Repco arn't stocking them in the big smoke.

Keep an eye on the oil level- read the manual on how to check it its easy.

On highway speeds after about an hour+ on country driving, it may need a short break to cool slightly

    - don't dispare, Its a great bike, it has lots of things most other bikes dont have - easy start, fuel gauge, good headlight (I get complaints from fellow riders as to how good it is)

a very practical bike , one I think isn't all that well promoted - probably because it isnt as sexy as those high powered sport bikes, but it can keep a good pace, with good tyres

    have fun

What makes you think it needs a battery mate? Getting your hands on a multimeter or find a mate with one is a good start

Another tyre worth looking in to is the Sport Demon fantastic for light bikes

Search here is your friend. Some people recommend Metzeler Lasertecs.

They are a brilliant first bike, but don't invest too much in it, by the time I got my restricted I was hankering for something with some more get up and go.

Good first bike for learning fundamental maintenance on - checking chain tension, oil, make sure all the bolts are where they should be, and so on.

Well looked after you should nearly make your money back if you sell 6 months later ($ on tyres excepted obviously)

Put good tyres on it and just ride. Battery should be ok with only 2000ks on it.

Tyres will be slippery for 200ks? NO. They will not.

If you are concerned about them being slippery for the first ten or fifteen ks, brake clean and a rag gets rid of the releasing agent. Or get the shop to road test after they change them.

Hey Drew, I just wrote what I found out for myself, this being my first bike and I was learning things by myself, books, internet and glorious info from KB
I dont have any friends that are into bikes etc except the ones from SASS which I only found recently.

I have no idea about ability of OP (suggest that OP finds a nice group of similar riders and/or get good training) I ride with some guys who have had a few weeks riding on a Ninga 250 or a CBR 500 who now want more powert all depends on the rider

I just wanted to say if you are a beginner, and learning to ride carefully your first bike like I did, then this is what you can expect.

for the more adventurous like yourself then brake clean etc would be OK too .

The tyre shop didnt want to test bike and I didnt want them too, come on, its a Scorpio not a Ninja.

I am a cautious rider hence the 200 k's of mainly smooth country roads. I was in CHCH last week for a day and most of the roads I was on were long, straight and flat, different from up here in Sth of the Big Smoke

and no I dont want to start a slinging match, just help others who might be a little timid with no help from immediate friends etc like me.
(Yeah I can be boring but I try to be as good as I can)

The OP could be the next Rossi for all I know
