What are the top sports commuters?

What would be your pick for the following requirements:
    Sports bike
    6k or less
A late model (ie less than 6 years)
Commuting on it so Im not after the supersports (r6, cbr600 etc)

Bikes that come to mind are the Hyosung gt650, Suzuki SV650, Honda CBR250, and the new Hyosung X4

Plan on getting a superbike some stage next year but would still need a bike to get around on

Its not what you got its how you ride it.
My trusty ol 100,000km GSXR750 got commuted Napier to Hastings daily in 6am frosts and later the motorway run from Mt Wgtn to Manukau daily in all weather with no problems.
If it comes down to anything something with bigger well positioned indicators and good mirrors would be the only real advantages to be had. Oh and underseat raincoat storage

If I was in the market for a sporty commuter, I'd be looking at the Kawasaki ER-6f

What I've got does the job pretty well. GSR600. Detuned GSXR600 donk with a comfortable upright seating position. Sporty enough to do dumb shit but still a 'gentlemens bike'. I'd agree with the ER-6f too though. it was my second choice when buying a few months back.

I had an SV650. Now I have a GSX-R600. I'd actually prefer the gixxer for round town.

    ++ ER6F.

Consider GS500F as well, bit more sedate.

Or you *may* if you're really really lucky find a Ninja 300 for $6k, but it'll probably have some scrapes. Better to budget an extra $1-1.5k for a decent one (there will probably be more depreciation on it than the above tho)

    Fourth vote.

SVs are budget, the rest aren't sporty at all. ER6s are great little bikes.
I, myself, would get something with at least 100hp, then double it

ER6 is a budget piece of shit, just the same as the SV. Get rust on forks and shit.

So don't let build quality influence you between them

Not sure where you get that from - saw a 2006 er6 recently with 120000km, no rust anywhere at all. Maybe due to not being looked after?

The one my wife had. Was perhaps a little neglected, but no worse than any of our other bikes.

The SV will be mint and reliable forever too, when looked after.
