one reason might be that due to the epic brilliance of the transpurt planners at the Petone end it dumps you into an insanely dangerous intersection. One where a senior pleecemin (Steve Foster I think his name was) was killed by a motorist.

I am sure there are stats as to how much use it does get but I dont live in Wellington any more. What I would say to you is that EVERY cyclist on it is one less car cluttering up your morning commute.

A motorcycle Cop which is the Motorcycle version of the Highway Patrol. Not (usually) a general duties Officer. His duties are not restricted to "harassing" motorcyclists. He is still keen to chat with car and truck drivers ... even cyclists .... should the need arise. (and often does)

Aside from the fact that the cycle lane is for the sole use and safety of cyclists, some motorcyclists have been injured using it ... and the interest of their (and your) safety ... it IS being patrolled.

And .. his fuckin time is pretty much what he decides it should be. If the people that have the power to veto that ... they WILL. THEY trust his judgement ... as do most that have had contact with him ...

Surprise surprise ... YOU do not have the power or ANY say in the matter. If you don't agree ... TOUGH. I don't give a fuck.

Talk to the officers that ARE responsible for the above duties .. but they are not the usual responsibility of the Highway Patrol.

I'm guessing .. he (or a few of his workmates) have been picking on you. Oh dear how sad. But ... few care. Most will think it rather funny actually.

I have mused this several times, whilst avoiding cyclists on the highway.

There is also another problem with it. The trip home, would require riding the wrong way for a hundred meters or so of 100kph highway.

I hate cyclists on the roads, with a passion. But, some of it is not their fault. They are growing in numbers on the roads, so concession need be made for them. It helps keep congestion down, and it's good for you.

I wouldn't if I were him. They tend to be a little bit touchy about the fact that they get no life, divorce rates disproportionate to loads of professions with far less stress and more money, usually get fucked over by their boss/the public/lawyers, and generally can't do what they desperately want to do because their hands are tied up by stupid legislation.

Those guys and girls got it rough, and every time there is a fuck up by any officer they get to enjoy nothing but shit from every direction. All for the princely sum of 80 odd grand a year, fucked if I'd even consider the job.

Where as a cyclist is an unknown quantity that needs to be given more space thereby creating congestion. I reckon every cyclist is equal to set of pretend 30k roadworks except you can speed through roadworks but have to slow down for cyclist or risk a manslaughter charge.

The reality is that cycling although enjoyable is not a practical option for many workers in the modern age and even in your little private lane utopia few extra people would convert.
When I was in the UK I push biked to work a round trip of seven miles each day, half of that on a busy road. It was a major PITA though and only done due to the ridiculous rates they charge for car insurance over there.
Your 18m dollars would be better spent subsidising bus services which more people would actually use and would be a net benefit in safety to the community.
If people weren't so stupid and lazy, then most able bodied people would realize that they could easily commute by push bike. It's what I've been doing for the past few years, and it's worked out very well for me with the amount of money I've saved, and the convenience of not having to get a taxi or another ride when I'm drunk. Watching all those dumbasses sitting in traffic in their cages is quite funny while I go past.

It all just works. (Apart from drunken cyclists hiffing bikes in the canals and rivers all the time...)
Unfortunately NZ is too backward for a system like that.

Do you seriously think that cagers drive in a predictable manner? Most cagers are an "unknown quantity" as you never know when they're going to quickly change lane without indicating or fail to give way. Cyclists still do contribute to congestion a whole lot less than cars do.

When I was younger I used to ride to work from Howick to Panmure. No cycle lanes, shit road.
    Best accidents:
hit from behind by car towing trailer wider than itself, I got launched into the shrubbery.
car turned right in front of me=flying lesson.
car turned left while alongside, relativily painless as went around corner leaning on the car.
car came out of side road & hit back wheel=another flying lesson
Kid stepped out onto road x2=more flying
Hit gravel from crap roadworks=long slide job

Got very good at looking for people opening doors etc

mirrors would not help as there is not much you can do when your riding along minding your own business & some blind driver just mows you down. If you are going to swing out generally your spiddy sense will let you know a car is there or just have a look.

I never ran reds but did try to kick cars if they were still in the intersection when my light was green, got a few too

What about if the bike moves as slow as a cycle (around 20 - 35 kph)?
If you think a bike moving the same pace as cycles, makes louder sound than cycles, have headlights, brake lights, and turn signals are still in a bad position there, what about cyclists?

There's nothing to sort out. It's against the Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004 for a moped or motorcycle to ride in a special vehicle lane designated for cycles.

Just coz so many cops do nothing about it doesn't make it legal.

    Interesting perspective.

23% of the Police funding comes from the Land Transport Fund, specifically for the purpose of road policing. For that reason, we are held accountable for ensuring that 23% of our efforts are on road policing.

I get allocated a job, and I get to go out and decide how to do it.

I'm sorry that the Police who are supposed to do the stuff you mention haven't. Maybe speaking to the local District Commander would change that.

Venting your obscene ignorance on here is most unlikely to change much. Still, amazing what a good venting can do to cleanse the soul.

I sit and wonder each day what I can do improve the lot of cyclists and motorcyclists (as I am both) on our roads, and as time allows I take action to implement the law as it stands to try to improve things.

My sincerest apologies for having upset your vision of the world.

I won't be applying for work at Maccas any time soon.

Now, Dunkin Donuts I might consider.
