That was me with Mulletman in Akaroa. Good to see the stuffed one in person!
Just because the thread needs more pics
Doing stuff today, while I thought about the next adventure... excuse the crap cell phone pics
And the words of David Coverdale sprang to mind
I don't know where I'm going
But I sure know where I've been
FYI
Great album![]()

Good to know I'm not the only weirdo taking pics of a soft toy while out for a ride today.
Great day for it down here, even if it was only the commute to work.

That statement may have been a bit prematureI've been a bit slack lately. Only rode to Takaka for a kebab and out to Hori bay one afternoon since the last trip south. But I'm working on it
The trip North was good, however there was to many wheels involved for it to be a part of this thread
Despite my whining and bleating on a daily basis about how much better it would be on the bikeand pointing out the huge grins on the faces of every biker who went past. However we saw some nice/interesting/cool things.
Even did the touristy thing in Waitomo with a heap of Asians who must've been taking a break from house hunting in Auckland, Quite cool reallythe pics don't do it justice really
Aaaaand I picked up a set of tyres for the bike, thanks to Laava.
Chur! Feel a bit stink about not having you guys in for a cuppa, but I had an appointment to get to and you guys were running out of day! Where did you end up spending the night?
Only a Rat can win a Rat Race!
Right...
Seeing as how I had a new set of tyres waiting in the lock up I figured I'd best finish off the old ones firstand I needed some helmet time.... badly
A ride round the block should do it nicely, seeing as how the weather's warming up
I loaded up some crap, and George, and hit the road after a bit of a lie in,just to make sure the frost was gonemaking my way to Tapawera and along the Dry Weather rd and then out to Lake Rotoroa
Through the Braeburn track...
I didn't even stop in Murch, it was such a nice day and I was in the grooveThrough the Upper Gorge and hung a left towards Reefton for a bit of gas
![]()
I'd had a quick look at RemoteMoto and decided to go through Bell Block rd as I hadn't been there before. So I took a left towards Nelson creek. At one point I was flicking around the GPS seeing where Kangaroo Creek rd went (just because the name interested me) when a local stopped to see if I was all good. He recommended I didn't try it on my bike, so I'll have to go and have a look later, possibly with company
Anyway... Carrying on to Bell Block rd and past Lady Lake. I took a little lumpy side track to see if it went to the lake, it ended in a swamp after about 50mso I didn't see much of the lake. Nevermind... On to Crooked creek which was as good a place as any for a brew. George musta been gettin cramped too.
Feeling re-charged, George assumed the position in the pannier and we carried on out to Jacksons and over Arthurs Pass. There wasn't much happening there so we carried on. I was looking for the turnoff to Mt White station, which I found easy enough, thanks to the huge signI'd seen a couple of campsites up there which'd be a good place to stop. After going to the end of the road and had a look at Lake Letitia.
Nice spot
Then back to Andrews shelter campsite. Awsome... under cover parking even
Set up the tent and cooked tea then yarned a bit with some folks from Dunedin.
The next day dawned just as perfect as the first
After shaking the ice off the tent and packing up it was time to get under way.
I put the headphones when I got back to the main rd
Damn it was good to be alive, sun shinning, good tunes, swooping through the bendsIt was one of those days. I needed this.
Over Porters pass and into Springfield for some much needed juice, George had to get out and get his photo taken in the giant donut
We didn't hang around long and made tracks through Oxford, which seemed to arrive way to quickly
I was flicking around the GPS again and saw a track out the back of Rangiora which meant I could bypass the town. It was quite busy with walkers and mountain bikers on a sunday morning, but I'm sure they didn't mind me sneaking past

I had no idea Rangiora had an airportwith some interesting looking winged things lurking in hangars. We popped out back on H/way 1 at the Waimak bridge and headed North, the day was still young so I turned the bars left at Innes rd and wobbled around some random back roads for a while.
Eventually getting to here
Where I banged a waypoint in for home and told GPS to get me there, which it did, nicelyOver Lewis pass
With a small detour over the Maruia Saddle rd, where once again George had to put in an appearance
I love the last bit of that rdit never seems to rut up and is always swept clean (touch wood). Then the last stretch home, still trying hard to finish the rear tyre
Which I think I did, it won't last another trip.
I think I need some more helmet time though![]()
I see?? It is okay for you to wear a helmet, poor George has nothing![]()
Lovely country, Thanks for the photos.

Good, and yeah its getting warm again. Itching for a long ride.
Edit, what tyres did ya get?
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
Don't worry... I've been thinking about a helmet for the stuffed one, I just haven't found one yetI may have to manufacture something.
I was glad I'd left the liners in the gear in the morning and evening so it's still not that warm yet. I would flick ya a txt next time I go, how much notice do you need ? I only need about an hour
Installing a Karoo on the rear to match the one on the front, see how long it lasts![]()
Goodness my old man you get around.
Lovely pics & RR
Thanks for sharing
