Watch this space, reckon this will create more accidents, not to mention risk emergency services who travel this road at high speed.
Eventually someone will run this new stop sign, murphys law and all, but the poor victim wont get any warning due to the screen.
I live not to far from here and there are bugger all crashes compared to other spots and usually come down on the bike drop a couple of gears and lay the bike on its side for a left turn at 50 into the 50 zone coming off the expressway.
Looks like it will be an oh so convenient hiding spot for police though...

I think this is the dumbest thing ive seen... this week.

Seen other instances of poorly sighted intersections recently. I don't see how its going to change the behaviour of those people who don't stop anyway, and just glance up the road. Stupid.

Had a round about down our way on SH1 with lots of shruberry in it blicking visibilty, when i enquired of the roading authority abut trimming it was told its deliberate "traffic calming" strategy ffs gotta love lycra clad cycle riding traffic engineers.

As for masking visibility, there are a lot of overgrown roundabouts round here for the same reason. Sure makes me feel safe - means I never see the idiot failing to give way until he runs into me.

And in more Bizarro road safety news in HB, Police (and CVIU even at that) are saying something may be wrong with a corner where several trucks have rolled in recent times. For those familiar with the route its the right hand bend that drops you down onto the Eskdale flats just before one of the speed cameras fav parking spots...
Despite the fact that hundreds of other truckers make it thru DAILY without incident... Is this cop on a secret windup poke at the media, having a chuckle that they reported this nonsense...

I find this most interesting as to my knowledge no govt agency has ever admitted that any section of roadway was a measureable cause to an accident. Even one of the worst where the 8 tourists were killed when the van slid on that crappy mess of a tar bleed slippery wet bend into a truck they said nothing wrong with road...

To be fair, I was even stumped with a roundabout that is now part of SH1 at Taupiri. Head south, left at the first roundabout and straight through the second. That second one is seriously off camber, like it was built on the top of a hill... Doesn't seem smart to me...

Try driving south out of Blenheim from town, 2 roundabouts (one with the railway line through the middle), change lanes each time to keep going straight through.

Why should it cause any problems??? It is a STOP sign so you have to STOP where you can see that the way is clear to proceed. Obviously heaps are breaking the law now. Anyone crashing there will more than likely also run the stop sign and thus be breaking the law.

I only pity the poor bastards they crash into.

True. Not that I get to use it very often, but every time I approach I remember it's a bit odd...

This isn't unusual, they place trees down the side of rows to make them appear narrower, which makes the majority drive slower. This sort of practical application of psychology has been around a bit now.
