Maybe, maybe not. I don't hold a degree in psychology, civil engineering, or any of the other related fields. I also haven't conducted any research whatsoever. Therefore I couldn't say whether applying this sort of thinking has or hasn't increased, whether it has or hasn't been effective, or if there have or haven't been unintended side effects.

Your average shrink will tell you that absolutely everyone will choose unspecified delays if it means a reduction in injuries and fatalities.

To be fair, I was even stumped with a roundabout that is now part of SH1 at Taupiri. Head south, left at the first roundabout and straight through the second. That second one is seriously off camber, like it was built on the top of a hill... Doesn't seem smart to me...

I think they've given up on trying to enforce the new SRT static rollover threshold and are resorting to the Darwin method with those new roundabout designs... But in saying that its still something an alert driver can see and judge before hand and drive accordingly...

Had a round about down our way on SH1 with lots of shruberry in it blicking visibilty, when i enquired of the roading authority abut trimming it was told its deliberate "traffic calming" strategy ffs gotta love lycra clad cycle riding traffic engineers.
