Something that grips my shit is the fact that my missus is KEEN as mustard to learn to ride , she has never ridden a bike but been on the back of a bike. So for the sake of our relationship I said that she should get pro tuition so first step ring the DI's in our area (BOP) and she left them all messages and the pricks made no effort to get in touch with her. We are about to move to Hamilton she found a school on the net and asked him some questions regarding getting the nessesary skills to pass the basic handling test and then carry on to get her lisence. This place just sent back a copy of their web page, which of course she had already looked at. Now after all that my point is surely people keen to get into the joys of hooning (as fast as someone learnig can)around on bikes should be given the chance to learn.Am I deluded in my reasoning I would like to hear what you guys and gals out there think.

A couple of ladies I know in Hamilburg are doing some training now. I will try to remember to find out where, then remember to post it here. If I don't forget...

true true, I thought the same, but this is over 4 months and many non returned call, so the grace period is well and truly ova. Just gutted as there may be other people with the same problem that aren;t as stubborn minded as her! and have given up.

Well, I know the guy at Hamilton Motorcycle Riding School is also the same guy that wrote the original syllabus back when the Learner/Restricted/Full license stuff was first introduced (damn I feel old now). I that because I was one of the 6 guinea pigs they originally tried it out on at the former Hopuhopu military base. He definitely knows his stuff and has been in the rider training area for at least 15 years.

He was alright from what I remember, but that was a very long time ago.

The only other one I know of is Alistair at Motolife. He took over when Bob Gough died (cancer). He's a good guy and I did a lot of training with him as we both went through the Motolife courses together.

Yeah I passed my learners there.

He's a nice guy, just a bit odd. When I left a message he contacted me and helped organise everything.

The skills are easy and I think they are in the road code.

The only part that is a problem is where you have to snake between 5-6 cones like this:

start -> : ` . ` . ` : -> end

You can go practise during the week at the school grounds (a converted netball court) when ever you want. the snake is the first lot of markers after you enter.

We mutually agreed I was not ready for the test the first time I tried it. I spent 6 weeks practicing before I thought I was ready (Doing the snake on the fxr is a lot harder) However you have to use a bike like his GN125's to pass, its impossible on my fxr because the cones don't give enough ground clearance to lean the bike.

Still only just passed the test. But it did force me to learn the balance of a bike.Piece of shit test tho WHO RIDES AT 15KMPH????

Anyway hes a nice guy, second time I tried there was a girl the group who got a rather suspisious 100% pass so your wife should find it easy if she gets some practise.

I did my BTC in Cambridge and I had some lessons first. The guy there is just great (liked the sound of his own voice a bit but his heart was in the right place). My girlfriend and I did an hours worth of riding with him first before the BTC started. He provided the bikes and the gear. Think it cost around $160 (give or take).

Unfortunately I hadn't heard good things about the guy who does it in Hamilton so chose this guy in Cambridge. I will look up his number for you. Note though, it took me three phone calls to them before they returned my message. I just had to keep trying.

And when you movin in? Need to have a big Hamilton meet some time cause there are quite a few of us now.

A suggestion - look up Lee Rusty. He is in Auckland, but other than that is allright

Lee is very good value. I had a very nervous family member got to Lee (after a poor experience with another instructor) and his calm, professional manner was a joy to watch. He placed the student under no pressure, but managed to impart all the required information very successfully.
