    Lane hogging

There's been a law change in the Uk which should seriously be considered here too. Without doubt some of the worst lane discipline is to be found here. I'm too not sure what the law is here but habitually driving in the outside lane should be dealt with...

I therefore presume they have already dealt with the issue of right lane hoggers. I think it is a bit soon for NZ to worry about the middle lane when we have so many that can't stay out of the right lane. The law here is keep left unless passing, covers both lane IMO but not as easy to police as speed cameras, I think about how hard it would be to observe someone driving in the right lane when not overtaking, actually not that hard at all and with a bit of software .... Ok so I spent a fear bit of my ride in today in the left lane getting past the traffic queued in the right

On the Welly urban, about the only place there is a middle lane, straight through traffic in the middle lane makes sense, leave the left for on and off ramp traffic and the right for overtaking, but if you aren't keeping up with the motorway traffic, speed restricted to 90 say, then use the left.

Well you live here so why not find out? Have a read of the Road User Rule. There is nothing that says you have to stay in the left most lane unless overtaking on a multi lane road. [EDIT - There you go, a different opinion to oneofsix to start the ball rolling]. Undertaking is also allowed here on multi lane roads which in the UK has been an offence for years.

I ride the only 100km/h dual carriageway down here every day and every day without fail I have to undertake someone who just sits in the right hand lane not passing anyone. It annoys me because I grew up in the UK with their strict lane discipline, but then I have to remember where I am and the fact that it is not discouraged here. It should be, like in a passing lane. But then hey, I am on a bike and moving chicanes make the trip more enjoyable.

On multi-laned roads, and right turning vehicles but check the road code.

Yep, as stated on multi laned roads.
You can pass a vehicle on the left on a single lane road if they are stationery, or if they are in the process of turning right.

I did... It would appear that the law requires drivers to use the left hand most available lane (which many do not hence my initial post about lane hogging). http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/ro...ping-left.html

What I didn't know (and rather disagree with) was that overtaking on the left is permitted : http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/ro...g/passing.html

And what speed are you doing??? Is there a problem sitting in the right hand lane if you are doing or above the speed limit. Whenever I drive through Auckland i always try and sit in the right hand lane to avoid ongoing and off going traffic yet I ride at about 105km to 110km so if anyone passes me they are breaking the law

How righteous of you. The law as she is writ says you must keep as far left as practicable. End of story!!

so you think it is alright for you to break the speed limit (as it is only 100) but no for anyone else.

So you think it is already to break the keep left law with your inconsiderate driving but not ok for someone to drive a little bit faster than you.

Actually, the story should end with reference to where that is writ...
