Yes I agree, we import a lot of our product and the big killers are freight and GST, we are well aware of having our pricing comparable to overseas pricing which we have done which is great for NZ adv riders, we have hooked into Klim's high user freight rates which we simply don't have access to here in NZ which is good for pricing, now for the sales pitch, we are Klim factory backed, for the end user that means local dealer warranty, backup and service, if you have the misfortune to have a wee lay done and need a repair we can do that here in Christchurch to return your investment back to pre crunch status.
Like all garments they wear out over time and in ADV riding the gear gets punished by riding and environment and of course the dreaded UV rays that fade everything, once again being able to offer local repair is good news for the product and the riders as "return to base" warranty for USA based products is expensive and time consuming and a bloody hassle.
We are so looking forward to having the Klim gear, it really is good stuff
Cheers Paul

In Auckland I would look at Motomail in Auckland Central, Cycletreads just over the bridge and Cyclespot? (European, KTM dealers). However, most of the bike shops on the north shore are on Barrys Point road, Takapuna so you can walk to all five of them in 2 minutes.
You could try Experience Motorcycles in Kingsland as well, I haven't been there for a while but they used to have very adventure riding oriented staff.
The problem you may have is that Klim will be expensive for your average tight arse rider so maybe focus on the BMW and KTM shops that attract the more affluent riders, it's the guys that don't mind spending on accessories you want, not us "can I make that road sign into a bash plate?" types. Another option might be to contact the likes of Mike Britton, Robbie? Cricket (south island) and see who they use when advising / outfiting organised rides.
Brilliant thanks for that, I thought for a minute Auckland had been deleted.
Yes the Klim gear is in the top price range but the quality reflects that, and yes some one who has just bought a bike for 2k isn't going to spend a huge amount on riding gear.
Yes I must admit I wanted to make a splash guard for my new Beta 498 so I stole an oven tray from Debs oven, it was easier to seek forgiveness than permission.

None of the Rotorua shops really carry a huge amount of gear, so I doubt they'd be lining up to drop several large on Klim stock. The KTM dealer, Patterson O'Connor would be the better bet probably.
FYI I'm currently seeking applications from sponsors for the MMMMM ride & I desperately need a new winter jacket....Free entry to all sponsors
...you are going to join us on the MMMMM if you're here mid August aren't you?
Cheers

One of the guys here told me that he had an R100GS for sale.
When I went in there he was unloading some stuff at the back of his workshop and basically just ignored me.
Then his workshop hairy turned up and I asked him if the R100 was for sale - he said he thought so, and then said "um" alot.
After a couple of minutes of this the owner yelled at the hairy to come and help and he left left me there looking like a spare preeeck at a wedding.
I stalked out, vowing never to return, and bought an R80 from Mount Motorcycles (for almost twice the price) a couple of weeks later.
Actually that reminds me - if you're going past the BOP, Ray Holmes at Mount Motorcycles is a great guy.
I don't shop in Gotham city erm I mean Hastings (nothing wrong with any of the bike shops there, just the rest of the local population...) so I'll nominate Erickson Honda at Bay View.
Great service and I think they prob get a good share of the upper touring market in there.
Their building a brand new showroom which will eventually be finished/open too.
