It gets cold, fuck, we have penguins living in town and I can't take the bike today because it is about to shit itself with snow, but it is hardly cold and miserable. I think it was the last word that struck a nerve given that you live in New Zealand which is hardly a South Pacific paradise.

But NZ is a south pacific paradise......
I love going to the islands for a holiday....
but wouldnt want to live there..

I lived in many different countries
    traveled to even more.
some very hot and some very cold.

    I chose to live here,
lived in bay of islands and Te Anau,
and a fair few places in between.
Some suit me better then others
    for all sort of reasons

But this thread told me a lot more about some people
    Then it did about Dunedin

By the way, nice and sunny here, so of on my chrome horse, tassles in the wind,
May still need that snowmachine this year, down your way ?

...lived and worked at down to -27 for extended periods, outside...didn't notice much difference between -10 and the lower mark...it kills a little quicker though, I believe...hot is what a young spunky chick is...cold is a state of mind...

Dunedin is a cold hole. I would rather live in Central eg Alex. Dunedin is full of miserable Scotts decendents. OK its got a IMHO a 2nd rate hospital (not a good place to be ill), a Uni and a chocolate factory, but that does not make up for the rest of the area.

I don't have any problems with it being cold but Dunedin is a wet miserable grey kind of cold that lasts for 10 months of the year. Most of the other time it is just wet and miserable (the people and the weather). Thats why the Scotts went there, it reminded them of home.

Housing is cheap there but wages are low, if you can find a job. Which in my book evens it out.

FYI I have just sold up and moved out of Otago, we moved north to get away from the wet and cold. A typical winters day here is 16 deg. Given Otago did not have a day over 20 since Christmass 2013 and we get the occassional 20 even in winter. To date the winter weather here is largely the same as the Otago summer weather.

By the way the rheutism has dissapeared.

Is that a spelling disorder? I don't think it has gone just yet.

Each to their own I guess. I have lived and worked in a few countries and then ended up in New Zealand. I have lived and worked in both islands and to be honest would not move from Dunedin to anywhere else in NZ. Overseas yes, but family has put the mockers on that for at least a few years.

It is dark and raining as I type, no doubt it will freeze shortly but then it is the middle of winter. I like having seasons which are one thing I did miss living in some more equatorial places. Got a well paid job and a massive view from home, central heating keeping it at 21 degrees inside. Twelve minute ride to work whatever time I leave, lots of quiet roads if I want to take the long way home.

The hospital is great in my experience. University means short skirts in summer and Whittakers is better than Cadburys anyway so who cares. Winter lasts for a good couple of months, you exaggerate the rest but I guess you need to try and justify your move north.

I do agree with you on one point though, the number of jocks and gingas. Fuck, I thought it was bad in Scotland.

many a dark and cold night in Dunedin was made that much better by warming my bed with one of the plentiful supply of university sluts during my first few years here.

Dunedin has a plentiful supply of University sluts ... AND dark cold nights ....

Some of those sluts DO need a (very) dark night though ...

Because of the University and the Dental school we have a top class Hospital and sporting amenities . All you arseholes breaking your necks to live in Wellington or Auckland because its warmer you have more pollution, more traffic woes and way dearer housing, every day we hear on the media of shitty old houses in mediocre areas on the market for 6 to 8 hundred thousand in Auckland you cant afford to buy so you have to pay massive rents, for what your paying in Auckland for some dump you could have this....http://www.trademe.co.nz/property/re...............or this....http://www.trademe.co.nz/property/re...3347.htm....or this......http://www.trademe.co.nz/property/re...7.htm.......or this.....http://www.trademe.co.nz/property/re....htm........or this........http://www.trademe.co.nz/property/re..............any way think what you like but dont believe what you see on the tv temperatures about our weather etc, you dont want to live here thats fine stay where you are but dont be thinking where you live is any better than here
Fuck, thats enough of that talk. I thought the plan was to let the rest of the world think Dunners was a shit hole while we enjoyed the life . Oh and FWIW my wife and I have been ridding nearly every week through the winter with only 3 days that we missed due to the ice.
