I emailed Epic and they will look in to it an decide if they need to change anything as soon as they can.
I phoned the one motel owner I know personally in Fairlie, he said all their rooms for that Friday/Saturday are being held until 3rd November then any not being used will be released for booking again.

Everything is pre booked for a wedding I was told by Kimbal motels. Epic events have booked the Gladstone hotel. I spoke with Claire and asked for a room for my son Scott and i. I told them of the accommodation problem as TA did. See what happens I guess

    14 and 15 February NOW !!
    *************************
As recently updated on the Epic website.... www.epicevents.co.nz/page/87-motorbike-events+dusty-butt-db1k

Really not anything else they could do but change the date with no rooms left available in Fairlie on the original planned date.

Hi there Ktmsouth, not to sure if you have done the route before but just to give you an idea of a time frame that you'd be looking at...the record is approx 19 hours by a Dusty Vet who had prearranged fuel drops and is a very quick rider, he rode a KTM 450 with safari tank. It maybe possible to be a bit quicker if you are in a group as he had the disadvantage of having to get off and open and close the 30 odd gates on the route, he also had heavy fog to deal with for first two hours, I for one would be impressed if you get anywhere near his time!
If you're not living on the edge you're taking up to much room!

30 odd gates? how about 74000 damn gates?

Wonder how many there actually are? Transalper?

Probly not a starter this time(probly) Depends on the route quite a bit.

There is a promise of a surprise or change or two for 2015 but that you have done one over the two days is good to hear, at least you go in with a good idea of what will be required.

Gates.... I've been fairly lucky in not having to open extreme numbers of them myself with the groups I've found myself in but weren't there are around 30 in Tompsons Gorge all by itself... though they are not always all closed.

I see the latest email out says it is a GPS route only.

I loved the route sheets. Riding and fun navigating at the same time. Yeah GPS is easier and more reliable, but 10% the fun.
It seems a shame they are getting rid of that part of the ride.

Set the GPS for turn by turn navigation.
