That is no fun because it knows where you are.
I loved the orienteering element to route sheets. Being told to turn now is not the same as having to check through half a dozen boxes to make sure you went right at the hedge, 350m to the gate then 4.8km along the track across the river and staying right at the barn. Am I the only one?

I'm with yah Chris, alot more satisfying to navigate the route yourself rather than being told where to turn, getting lost is part of the adventure!

Feed the GPS route into rallynavigator.com and it will spit out a route sheet. A bit of tidying up and away you go...

Thumbs up The Planets Have Aligned

I was not going to do the Dusty Butt in 2015 as the date did not really work out with a work conference that I had to attend
So I had decided that Bannockburn Bike Week would be the better option and had booked in for that.

In a very unusual situation for me planets have all aligned and my work conference is now going to be based in Christchurch, leaving me with the dilema of should I
do the Dusty Butt or Bike Week.

The decision was too taxing for my tiny little brain to cope with, then in a moment of clarity I managed to stumble along the perfect solution.

    Do Both

So I am registered for both events, with a quick flight home for 2 nights in the middle to make sure that her indoors hasnt left me and to get ready for my conference.

Bring on January, I cant wait. Now I just have to plan what to do in the 4 spare days that I have down south before bike week. ( Clarence River Reserve perhaps ?? ).

I plan on crossing over on the ferry on or around the 26th January, so if anyone else is heading south about that time it would be good to meet up.
Here for a good time, not necessarily a long time

Week of the 26th-ish could work for the Clarence for me. Very keen to get in there.

Anyone got a previous dusty gps track that I could have? I want to load it onto a gps and see how it works.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

Take any track log of around 2000 points and load it in to your GPS (as a track log) and navigate it in its raw form. That's how it was done last year.
All the modern Garmin GPS's (excluding zumos) can do that simply by transferring the file to your gps then on the bike you go to the track manager menu, select the track and select 'go'. Then you follow the purple line (or what ever colour you set it to if you've been messing with options)
The older units can not load tracks with so many points (they simply get the end of the track cut off at the gps's maximum ability) or navigate smaller track file as easily as that.

It is easier to demonstrate if you have a track that starts near you.

Google "epic events" and find the entry form fill it out, pay your money (credit card) when you pick your shirt size choose your normal size. Last year sizes were spot on. Good luck. I'll be there as well
