Bike suggestions for 10-year-old?

Hi KBers. Our just-turned-10-year-old has been riding a ttr90 for a year and has mastered the basics of trail riding well. He is still getting plenty of fun out of the bike but has physically outgrown it. When we can get the $$$ together, would like to look for a second hand bike that is bigger and has good ground clearance, probably with manual gears if this is considered a good idea at this age? Prefer 4 stroke and electric start. Would be glad of any suggestions. Cheers.

If said 10 year old has mastered the basics of trail riding ... I would have thought this would also include choosing/changing gear to suit the terrain at the time. Learning the art of kick starting never hurts either ...

The amount of ground clearance would depend on said 10 year old's leg length.

If you are looking for an electric start if he is tall enough a klx140 would be a good option,

A kick start drz125 is a fair bit lighter, but not really a step up power wise much from the ttr90

Maybe a CRF 150. E start from 06?

Depends on height of child, mostly. Honda CRF80 may be a step, though not e-start and maybe no more power than TTR. The engine is more peaky than the CRF70 so all the gears get a bit of use.

They do hold their value and have that stupid 16" front wheel. Since rectified by new CRF125, but $$$.

CRF150 is another step up, and a lot heavier - though as Dad you'll be doing the picking up...

Enjoyed the suggestions. Thankyou If the boy keeps growing the way he has been, then it sounds like it won't be long before the options open up a bit. He is mostly fine with kick start but might struggle with this on a taller bike. When it comes time to factor in a manual clutch we are not sure what to expect...perhaps some Minties moments?

My now 13yr old went from a KLX80 to a DRZ125L big wheel about a year ago. Is a very capable bike which I feel has quite enough power. I'm in Sockburn if he wants to sit on it to try for size?
