Winding back km on speedos a real problem?

I'm looking at a bike which is a 2001 model and has done just 25,000kms. If what the dealership tells me is true, the bike has been imported from Japan and has all of the NZ certifications/required to be road worthy.

But it makes me wonder, 25,000 over 13 years is just over 1900kms a year which seems...odd.

Am I being too paranoid or there a possibility the speedo has been tampered with? Is this a common issue?

if it is a recent import I would have no problem accepting that data, as the proof needed these days for imports and there milage is very different to the old days when 95% of them were bullshit. And that milage is common for Japanese vehicles, they are only part time vehicle users

There are plenty of bikes that age and much older with those sorts of km on them.

If the condition is consistent with the milage indicated then I wouldn't worry about it.

Look at key indicators, like wear on footpegs (brand new is likely hiding something), scuffing on the frame in that area etc. The sorts of things that are really hard to hide and good indicators of how much it's been ridden.

I bought a 1993 ZZR1100 with 30k on the clock when it was 17 yrs old.. and it was genuine mileage. Plenty of bikes out there that are 'summer weekend' rides.

My bike is 3700 after 1.5 years.

I should ride it more often but don't get a lot of spare time lately.

Problem with jap imports is the time they sit in traffic. 25000 Kms, but probably done 4x that in running time.....

That mileage is probably genuine. My GSXR only does around 3,500km a year because it's too unreliable to do more than that.

Still the same shit from a few weeks ago when the charging system fucked out, and I don't have the time, nor means to take it to a non rip off mechanic that I know of. I'm not taking it to a Suzuki dealership.
