... the Sockburn roundabout in Chch is fairly intense at times...at about 4.30pm, just on rush hour I came over the bridge heading to the city...half of the cars in chch it seemed were lined up around its entries...I couldn't help but think as I entered it that, me and my sportster were the only living things on the roundabout, with streams of cars giving way to us...

...wrong...a third of the way round, with me wanting to exit at the second exit, a little toyota, out of all these walls of cars decides it can beat me and pulls out into my way...i had that compression of time things going on in my head and the usual resignation of, 'fuck, this is gunna hurt'...amongst the thoughts were things going on like pictures of me airborne, smashed bike, what a cunt etc...it wasn't my race skills from speedway or track or any other place that made what happened next transpire...I knew I could not carry on with my line or I would have been into the side of it...what made me lock up the back, throw my leg out and try tighten up the curve to go with her, I'll never know...some may say skill, bro...I'll go with luck...my bike smacked into a silly little girls school hack parallel to it and my footpeg retracted , went under her sill and all of a sudden I had a toyota carolla training wheel attached to my bike...I got away with an unnoticeable dent where my knee got smacked between her door and my tank and a bit of scuffing at the bottom of the fork leg...

...I couldn't believe it, dozens of cagers couldn't believe it and a young girl couldn't believe that some raging ginga had his helmet in her ear and was screaming obscenities at her...the bike was totally locked to the car and when she had stopped and all the vehicles were still watching the show, I think she realised what she had just done...all I could say to her in the calmest of tones was, 'you better go straight home and tell your mum what you just did'...I got a few hundred toots and after a bit of a check of the bike, I completed another lap of the roundabout and exited, like I was just leaving the Coliseum...I always wonder if she went home and told her mum...I also reckon she learned a lesson about giving way, I hope so...

Isn't it amazing what can transpire when the chips are down?
