    Motorcycle year question?

    Hi folks,
Haven't been on Kiwibiker too long, but appreciate the help.

Im looking to buy a 2015 Kawasaki Ninja 300 (available late October 2014). Just checking, would this be considered a 2015 model or a 2014 model? I understand it will be first registered in 2014.

I'm asking because this will possibly affect its resale value in a few years. Alternatively, I can save a bit of cash and go for a 2014 model. Thoughts?

    Cheers.

    You worry too much.

I think crashing it will affect its resale value more.

The rego tag will say its a 2014 because ltsa puts the year first registered on it , but it will always be 2015 model, not sure if it will effect the price, condition and mileage will be more a factor than what month it was registered

    Lol, what he said.

Is there actually a difference between the 2014 model and the 2015 model? If not get the 2014 model with ABS.

OMG. Resale value. Lol. One suspects you are over extending yourself.

Nope, no difference in the build at all between the 2014 and 2015, except a new colour scheme for the Kawasaki 30 year anniversary edition (which i don't like anyway).

Good point with the rego, thanks.

I went at great lengths to avoid K7 SV's that were first regd in 06, when I was shopping for mine.

I think you should totally get a 2014, but reg it in 2015. Total win.

Oh, protip, resale will always be less than what you paid, so if you're thinking about that, I suggest you put the money in a savings account for those years instead.

I purchased my Hornet new in 2007 - but it's a very late 2005 build (build date is on the Honda frame plaque thingy). Nothing changed from 04-08 other than body, engine and various bits colours. The very last ones in NZ late 07 were a 08 model - again different colours.

It's a fair question though as some people think a bike is 'old' after X years - others don't give a shit and pay attention to overall condition and service records.

The main guarantee is you will lose money on it anyway so just enjoy.

Date of manufacturer (i.e. model year) and date registered (i.e. the bit shown on the tag) are two different things. In theory, they should be registered the same year they were manufactured but at times stuff gets sold in december due to poor sales during the year, then gets registered in early january, and the guy that registers it puts in the current year in there versus the model year.

There are shit loads of 'made in XX year' but registered 2 - 3 years later Suzukis in NZ - every Summerfest they hold with special prices are on previous year(s) models.

Not big thing. They are all great bikes.

Model year and year of sale bear little or no resemblance. 2016 model cars are being introduced now, including the Mazda MX5.
Conversely, my boss imported an unregistered 2008 FJ1200 from the States and sold it in 2012 as a new bike. It had 80 miles on the odo!

2016? typo? You cannot introduce a 2016 model in 2014. False advertising at the least!!!!!!!!
