Fuck it.
Near the start of the Desert Road I went round a 25 corner at around 50. Gonna make easy but the whole lane was covered in some greasy shit. The bike just hit the tarmac instantly and I kissed the barrier.
I suppose if I was more experienced I would have seen the signs earlier, but it was a blind corner and the shadows hid the difference in colour of the tarmac.
I am never wearing jeans on the open road again. fucking noobish thing to say now I know. I have a decent jacket and gloves and they took the brunt of it with barely a scratch, but my right knee on the jeans just ripped open, I got a 50 cent piece scratch which I've bandaged up with a hankerchief. Fix it up when I get home. Thing is this could of happened around town too.
Still runs fine and seems straight enough where it counts. most of the damage is superficial but I need a front brake lever (and corduba trousers)before I chance making it home where i'll try tidy it up a bit. It ain't worth spending much on anyway. Needs a hammering in places.
I was amazed how little it hurt, guess I was very lucky that I was only doing 50, and that I hit the barrier square on.
Just a warning, there is over 10km of grease on the left lane of the desert road when heading south, be careful.
About insurance:
I have full coverage with Protecta but... I'm a Learner Licenced rider with no L plate who had an accident on the open road...good luck.
I seriously doubt the cost will be more than my excess anyway.
Should I bother informing them or am I legally obliged to do so.
The bike will probably have devalued hugely unless I replace ALL the fairing.
