Hi all
I'm thinking of joining in for the day on Saturday if this is ok will ride back to Auckland that night.
(pending baby and kids sitter works out but so far looking promising.)

Here for a good time, not necessarily a long time

Weather ????
Weather forecast for the weekend is lookinglike there will be no dust and plenty of traction.
Here for a good time, not necessarily a long time
Hi Guys. My Name is Daniel and nobody knows me...Just let you know....I booked two nights at Wellsford Inn, as well. Start tomorrow at Auckland after work to wellsford. Should be about 06.30. I hope the weather the not bad for us for both days.
Mixnut, i guessing you have a GPS track already done for both days. Is it possible to get the GPX track files? May send it ???
Guys... see you saturday morning.
I do love an optimist..... let us introduce you to the corner man system!
The weather will be fine, it never rains when I go for a ride, absolutely guarantee you fine, calm weather with a gentle breeze to keep the dust off the road and the sweat off your brow.
Due to me being a slack arse, we aren't leaving till 4.00pm so it's straight up the road tomorrow, see you all saturday morning.
Hi Daniel, I will see you at the Wellsford Inn Tonight, I will be getting there about the same time.
As Crisis says I dont use a GPS / Devil boxbut prefer the old school approach with maps ( my GPS lives in the boat ). There wont be too many of us so the corner man system should work fine.
Note to all the others....... I forgot that Crisis was coming along so you know what that means, there will be torrential rain - hail and possibly even snow for the first time in northlands history.
Better come well prepared![]()
Here for a good time, not necessarily a long time
starting to wonder if Crisis is a direct descendant of Thor![]()
'Good things come to those who wait'
Bollocks, get of your arse and go get it
Its karioke night at the local & its going off for wellsford.
Hi All
Sorry to say work has called me in so I can,t make the ride
Have a good ride
ken
Well that sure was a great weekend of riding, really makes me think I should get up north a bit more often. Thanks for organising Mark.
A few photos below. Larger versions of photos can be viewed here
The ride started with some early morning gravel after leaving Wellsford
After a refuel at Dargaville we headed towards Point Poutu via Kellys Bay. The group parked up ready to head onto the beach
On the beach and into the wind
Mark being a general hoon on the beach
The view from the Pt Poutu lighthouse, with a some of the guys trying to get up the dunes. Only a few of us managed to get to the top, 3 KTM 690's a 640 Enduro and a Yamaha WR250 supermoto running some adventure tires, a poor showing for the BMW, Suzuki and Honda teams.
One quite stuck freewind on the dunes
Team KTM at the lighthouse
General chaos in the dunes
Mark taking the quick way down from the lighthouse
From behind the lightouse was almost sheltered from the wind here.
The wind pushing the sand across the beach was very cool looking. Must have been a 60kph+ winds which made it a pretty hard trip up the beach to Baylys Beach
Up in the dunes towards Glinks Gully
One slightly broken BMW R80.
Not long after this a bit of light rain started and kept us damp for the trip back to Wellsford, but we were all comfortably installed at the pub having a drink or two when the real rain set in.
At the Wellsford Inn we parked the bikes inside the old bar downstairs (which was great to know the bikes we somewhere safe, it even had an alarm as we found out in the morning when it came time to get the bikes out).
Sunday morning was a more leisurely start at 8:30. After leaving Wellsford we headed down into Port Albert
A brief rest stop at Port Albert
We had about 70km of great flowing gravel before we hit SH16 and the run down into Hellensville
After SH16 we did a quick run up into south head then onto the beach at Wilsons road, the approach to the beach provided a bit of a challenge for some of us
The soft sand can be tricky to navigate, speed is the key, control is also important.
Mark enjoying watching people struggle with the dunes on Muriwai Beach
The dakar in the dunes
Sometimes the little bikes need a some help.
Clint taking the dunes at great pace, almost a little too quick.
Rosie with a gallant attempt at the Wilsons road entry to Muriwai Beach
Even the big bikes (with road tires) need a hand or two
Clint was nice enough to deliver Rosies bike to the top of the dunes, his parking style is unusual to say the least.
Managed a jump in the back of the dunes, nothing huge might be a 3ft drop into soft sand.
A nice end to the day after lunch at the cafe in Muriwai we stopped to enjoy the view back up the beach from the lookout above the Muriwai Gannet colony
