When we were planning a ride in Malaysia I went looking for something a bit lighter but still waterproof and came up with this Leatt Pro Jacket.
I've had it for about a year, and apart from it being a bit fiddly around the neck (where you can use a brace), it's a very good piece of kit.

Then a couple weeks back the plastic buckle of the waist adjuster came off in my hand off whilst I was adjusting it. On closer inspection it was held in place with just two stitches. Neither incident fills me with confidence the gear would hold up well in a slide down the road.

Earlier this year I had to send my jacket away for repair when the zip on one sleeve cuff got snagged so badly on the mesh underneath it tore the mesh, and still refused to free itself. This has also happened on the other sleeve now. Not great design from that viewpoint.
The zip on my sand pants did the same thing, and the leg zips aren't that flash either IMHO. Will try something else next.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

I know its too bloody late, but the bottom of the rev-it range and the top are worlds apart in quality. I've heard plenty of people bitching about Jacket X or Pants Y yet when you push them a bit harder you find out they've got the cheapest one possible (bloody Kiwis). Have had the Sand (original) and Defender currently (2.5 years old now?) and the Defender is great. Noticeably better than the Sand in multiple areas such as zip quality, snap closures and waterproofing of the outer layer (to stop the outer getting waterlogged).
Mine gets thrashed daily and it has been great.

My only complaint is on the pants, the rough part of the Velcro around the boot area gradually rubs at the liner until it burs up and starts catching. Still works though!

Just about to run all mine through a waterproofing cycle again with techwash. Again another area where people suck - not doing the recommended maintenance and then complaining it isn't as waterproof as it was. Same goes for all Goretex goods.

Just on Devil's note, the upper range does have technology like ripstop, which stops any holes getting bigger etc. Specifically noted and explained in some of Revzilla's videos.

Defender was top of the line a few years back, so while the tech is a few years old, it was top spec.

Where do you get the techwash Devil?

Most of the main outdoors stores. It's a Nikwax product designed for synthetic materials, specifically GoreTex and SympaTex type stuff. Key part about washing this stuff though for maintaining the water repelency is chucking it straight in the dryer after the wash.

I flew over a car at roughly 100kph thanks to a Smidsy in my 3 week old Sand 2 jacket. Scuffs on the shoulder where that hit the road and some minor scuffs on sleeves. Armour worked perfectly. If I'm going smdown again, I intend for it to be in that jacket or its replacement in a few years. Can't comment on durability, but it feels well put together. Very fortunate timing and good decision on my part.

    Would buy again.

I stopped wearing leather because there wasn't enough summer to justify it.... not sure there is enough summer to justify an Air jacket?

I overheat badly at times. And a lot on the way home from work. I know it will only be a few months jacket but worth it.

Usually that would be true but my issues have been with their former top of the line Defender GTX jacket and pants. The design with the mesh under the zips that easily gets caught in the zip is a bad one.

Gremlin also mentioned they have ripstop fabric which is true, but if the panels come apart at the seams as easily as my knee panel did walking into a foot peg, the ripstop won't get tested.

Perhaps both items were made on a Friday afternoon?

Could have been. It happens. Haven't experienced the mesh getting caught under the zip. Funny how some of those things are a pain in the arse if they haven't naturally folded themselves in the right direction from first use. Then they just wear in a certain fold which always gets in the way.

Haven't had anything other than stationary or near stationary crashes in the Defender kit and you wouldn't even know.

I got one of those last summer from Motomail. Really happy with it. Perfect for short trips and about town. Havent tried it on longer rides but if and when it gets warm enough will be giving it a go.
