Thumbs up Gauging a sale price, etc?

    Hello all,

I just want to gauge your views on a very tidy rare bike i have in regards to a sale price and to see if i have any interest in it..

So, i have restored a 1996 zx7 RR.. Its a RR, so not many made. Only 8 ever came into NZ through kwaka dealers. I have been told there are only 2-3 left in NZ.

The bike now is all back to original. All original kwaka parts used, sourced from the UK and Aus.
I have spent plenty of time and money doing this but really enjoyed the project. Ive been told it would be the best example in the country. I can give details of my rebuild items and pics if needed in an email.

Looking at the value of bikes in the Uk, they go for anywhere in the region of $20k..
I would be happy to put it on stands in the garage as i have a bmw k1300 for my riding now..

Just wondered if a rare bike like this would be of interest to anyone and what kind of offers i would get..
I would appriciate your thoughts, should i keep it? I really dont want to ship it abroad to anyone. Would like to see it kept in NZ.
    Thanks all.
If it's got tits or tyres... It's gonna be trouble..

Here's on for sale in NZ at the 20k mark.

Not sure what the market for a bike like that would be though.

Hmm .. work out what you think you need to get for the bike and put it on tardme and see what happens ..

Value is set largely by the buyer ...

The idea you'll get $20k is complete nonsense. Some people might be trying it on, but they'll never get it.

What study do you base that presumption on?

I guess if owo1 is worth around 30k then they would be worth about 20k.
Finding the buyer is harder than getting the money.
Someone who wants one will pay the correct price probably because money wont be a issue to them.

I think Don from Pitlane gave up trying to sell his OW01 and it was a lot cheaper than that. The king of those bikes is an RC30, and they are round the 30k mark. But I suspect the market for an RC30 is bigger than that for a ZX7RR.
Not helpful, eh? Its worth what you agree to sell it to someone for.

great link by the way:I'd never heard of that carbon garage. I have quite the erection looking at some of their stuff for sale.

also a very useful resource for OP in his quest for information.

As others have said, it's worth what someone is prepared to pay. If you're not prepared to sell at that price, then it's not really for sale. Basically, you're looking for a collector or enthusiast who wants exactly that.

I had a 96 ZX7R (not an RR) around 07 as my 2nd bike, and while it was great, a, I paid 8-9k I think, and sold for more like 5-6k, I certainly wouldn't be paying 20k for an RR, but then I'm not collecting one either.

Keeping it in NZ sounds great, but your pool of potential buyers is drastically smaller.

    Thanks for the replies all,

The one on the carbon website is a european model. The headlights are a tell tale sign.
A mint bike though, as is mine. Pretty much identical.

So, yeah, i reckon my chances are limited keeping the bike in NZ, then again, im in no rush to sell it.
Defo a collectors and yeah i would wait for the right buyer to show interest.
The interested person will not worry about the cost as someone said.

I based my price on what i have found others for sale. Im not sure i would pay $20k so i wouldnt expect anyone else to pay that either..
I paid alot less than that when i found it, but have spent alot restoring it.

Thanks agin for the feedback boys..

...Don started at 35k...I know that 'cos when I came home and mentioned in a little voice to my wife that I wanted this cool little yamaha racing bike and mentioned the price, she was not very happy...I think I had to wait hours for someone to come home and remove the cutlery that pinned me to the wall...that was the end of that...
