I probably should know better at my age, but...

Headed away to the west coast with some friends for the weekend, and in my internet travels happened upon a bike for sale.

As it was in Hokitika I thought I should go and have a look, and as the boys from work were already there with a trailer, and as it seemed to me to be pretty cheap, I thought I should probably buy the thing and bring it home with me....

    Only missing a few parts;

Fuel tap (which I've already found)
Ignition switch (I'm sure I can make something fit)
    Rear brake pedal
    Kick start lever
    One carb float bowl
Ram air cover for the head.

If anyone out there knows where I might get any of the above (other than Ebay with the associated hideous shipping costs) drop me a line, or if there is one somewhere near Christchurch I could have a look at to figure out the finer details of how a couple of things to together.

    Fun times ahead....

no such thing as having to many bikes............

    good onya and good luck.

Daryl at Japanese motorcycle spares in CHCH (Tuam street?) used to have heaps of used and new old Suzuki stock....
I know he moved towards greta valley somewhere, but should either still trade online, or may have sold on his business since?

Still out that way last I heard, I have got a few parts in the past when he was in Tuam street but not since he moved.

$350, thought it was pretty reasonable for a '73 bike that's almost all there. The main thing I'd like to find at the moment is the missing carb bowl so I can throw a battery and some fuel at the thing and see how it sounds running.

Well some progress has been made...

Hooked a battery up, and watched as the wiring heated up and started smoking. After bit of shagging around found the problem, some genius had decided that the loose connectors inside the headlight for the park light that's not fitted probably should be plugged into each other, therefore connecting the park light circuit directly to ground, unplugged and no more smoke.

Starter motor is not working, so pulled the starter/gen to bits and found it had no brushes left, that'll do it. While I was in there discovered that the engine still turns from the flywheel, and spark from both coils when the points are opened.

So at this point with a carb bowl and the carbs reinstalled, some starter brushes, and bolt the head down with the existing gaskets and it might even fire up
