I did a mint runner a few months ago. Full fucken noise on a K3 Gixxer Thou' for about 3 minutes, (that's a big distance, work it out), quick turn at the next set of lights, flat out over a particular hill road, back onto another motorway at a more sensible speed, home in record time. Ring the folks I was riding with to make sure they got away to be told "That was a fucken ambulance you dick"

Dirty old Chevy ambo aint worth a tin of shit in the runner stakes.

I'm with what loosebruce said earlier, time and place. Sometimes it's on, sometimes it's not. Luckily for me it's always been on so far

Cops getting plates is a concern, not much point in running in those circumstances. But those numbers are real hard to read at 200k in the opp direction. And why do cops bother to even chase when you look at them at 190k, then put the hammer down as soon as their lights go on. Like hello, are they expecting me to stop and hand over my license? Duh!

I like people who say you can't outrun the radio, it proves that they know nothing about how the police work. There needs to be someone on the end of that radio who can take action that will result in you being busted. Putting out a call saying a biker is doing a runner down XXX road is one thing. Having a unit in the vicinity, and available, to block XXX road in the 37 seconds it's going to take you to get to the next town is quite another.

So it seems that this draconian new Policing regime makes runners more likely.
    Who woulda thunk that?
Not LTNZ and Police that's for sure.

    Sure would...

    1. If I knew the area well (enough)
    2. If there was no plate identification
    3. If I was exceeding the posted limit by 50 (loose licence)

Obviously out in the country on the ol' 250 I wouldn't run, but in town/suburbs, totally different story.

Nearly thought I might have to on Friday, heading down Cranford street, (just past Sniper's place actually), approaching a set of red lights at about 80, maintained speed till I was about 40 metres out before braking... hullo, police wagon is there waiting on the other side of the intersection.

Figured if the lights came on I'd hit the gas, he'd be trying to do a u'y in the middle of the intersection, I'd cut left and towards Papanui road, get lost in the back streets and pop out closer to Memorial Ave.

He didn't bother though so all sweet

and 35 demerits. I'll relay to you the story of the last time I got caught doing a runner. Apologies to those I've bored with this story before. It was many years ago driving a cage (turbo rice rocket vs commo wagon).

Late at night doing 110 in 50 zone, cop comes around the corner, radar detector goes nuts. Oh dear. Do I stop and hand over license, or do I put my power to weight (and directional) advantage to the test? Hmm... well I pondered that thought as I nailed it, ears glued to the scanner (yep, I was a boi-racer once). Needless to say that chase was over before it began due to the geographical location.

Unfortunately for me, there happened to be four cars in the area in addition to the sargeant (way) behind me. One of those situations where the radio did win, because all escape routes were blocked within one minute. Being a fairly shy person, I didn't want to drive up someones driveway and hope they didn't notice a noisy black turbo jobbie droning away, so I told the guy next to me that we had been at Dan's place for the last hour (it was just down the road). He was fine with that.

Turned around, drove straight back to where a waiting cop car was and got the face mask ready.

    "Thought you could get away?!"
    "From what?"
    "From us."
"What you on about?"... and so it went on. As I pointed out to them that my black 323 sedan bore no relation to the dark-coloured Subaru Legacy wagon that they were looking for, and I offered suggestions for which part of my anatomy they should pucker up for when I called the radio transcript in evidence, not to mention the PCA complaint for false arrest yada yada yada. So two of them immediately started searching the car, and after a couple of minutes discovered that by tracing the wire coming out of the cigarette lighter they could find the big black scanner clipped to the sunvisor.

Anyway - another took the passenger for a walk down the road out of earshot and suggested to him that he might not want to get charged with accessory to dangerous driving. And what did he say? "But we didn't see you turn your lights on!" Last time he rode the mighty GTX.

So I pled guilty to failing to stop for red and blues in court a few days later. The judge (or was it JP, don't recall) looked at my record and told me she could not apply leniency because this was my 2nd offence for this, and it occured only two weeks after I got my licence back from a 3mth demerit point stint!

What would the outcome be for 110k in a 50 had I stopped? Instant loss of licence 28 days, plus court summons, another 3-9months disq and a big arse fine? Not to mention a firm rogering from the insurance company.

What did I get for doing a runner and getting caught? I farked off outta there so quick they couldn't actually see me driving dangerously, so... Conviction for failing to stop, 35 demerits and $350 plus court costs.

I don't drive fast cars anymore, but you can tell which way I'm leaning EVERY time the po po look at me funny.

I did a few runners when I was young and stupid. However today I just dont thinks its worth the risk, to your life, your licence and your liberty.

I got away 3 times and on the forth they put a roadblock in. 3 MOT cars (old days) across the road, including the footpaths. This was up a gulley with no side roads. I stopped and was amazed they didn't arrest me, but I was summoned to appear in court. They asked why I didnt stop. I said I didnt know they were behind me as my pipe was too loud. He promptly wrote me a ticket for a loud pipe as well then let me go. Anyhow, when I appeared in court I pleaded temporary insanity, the judge though it was a great laugh, said 'at least your honest' and fined me $300 no loss of licence. The 80's weren't all bad. Oneday I'll tell you how my friend got his licence . . .

Not too sure if this is classed as a runner but at Xmas time I was headed towards Taumranui in the National Park. Got stuck behind a stream of cars tha could not get past a semi trailor. Well to cut a long story short I weaved my way through the cars and only had the semi to pass. Now for those that know this road its a little on the twisty side. Not sharp but good easy curves. So I rolled back the throttle and was at that point of no return but who should come around the bend ahead of me but a HP car. (At this stage I just saw a car in the distance.) I'm clipping along somewhere in the area of 160 to 180 k's. Don't like being on the wrong side of the road for anyone and as little time as pos. By the time I got passed the semi and began slowing down the cop flashed. It had been over thirty years since I had been on this road and that was in a Sunbeam Talbot. I figured that I was bout 10k's outside Taumranui so I had choices. I could pull over and risk being hit by the stream of traffic that was behind me. I could do a runner with the excuse that if caught I could claim that I thought the cop was flashing the semi. By the time the cop u turned and got past the traffic flow even with his lights and siren on I could be pretty close to Taurmanui. If I gunned it for about three minutes I would be closer.

The chances of another cop in the vicinity was remote but it was a chance that I took.

So for about three minutes I gunned the bike then slowed down to 100 k's. Got into Taurmanui never saw the cop. No idea if he was after me or not. Stayed in T for three days..............walked most places or borrowed my mates car.

So if you are going to do a runner make sure you have a bloody good excuse if you get caught. And remember that's not for the cop but for the judge.

You got to weigh up the speed your doing and the consequences of that speed. If your going fast enough to lose your licence then what’s the failing to stop going to add to the equation? You can always say you where going too fast to see anything?
Me, I’m just plan chicken… and honest…. But when those blue and reds go on and its been one of those days you never know...

I'd much rather you were leaning towards that fence post coming up at ya. I just hope you kill yourself not others, I doubt society would miss you much though.
