There is good riding in the NI, but yes, with the SI more sparsely populated, more land, there is more back country, as such. Different scenery awaits in each island.

    What RMOTO gets us into...

After some recent exploring, I thought I'd highlight some of the things this "RMOTO" character expects us to do, in the quest for his "mototokens"

Climbing / Hiking. No, I'm not slinging her over my shoulder and climbing that bluff (coz I've run out of road). The 4 following pics are all while hunting for the right location for Double Hill Lookout.
     photo DSC00240_zpsj972heyb.jpg

Bush bashing. No, I'll try my luck with some grass, but sometimes, just sometimes, you get the idea you're probably in the wrong place. Not to mention the long grass made it super hard pushing the bike back and forth to get her turned around. Lifted the heart rate quite well but escaped dropping the bike (barely).

Swimming. Nope, she's something you tie around your ankles to go "swimming with the fishes". These were while reaching Oakden Canal Lookout and Harper Diversion - Coleridge Lookout.
     photo DSC00273_zpsmjohqbth.jpg

     photo DSC00285_zpsizbvqa3x.jpg
     photo DSC00286_zpsbm84sheo.jpg

Frolicking on the beach. Nope. She'll dig a nice trench for a couple of metres and then have a rest. I know this from experience.
     photo DSC00337_zpsasmj5kmm.jpg

Going for nice long walks. Ignore a sign that says something about road not maintained (pfft, as if that's stopped me for the last few days). Yes well, a locked gate down a blardy hill will stop you real good. Then you'll do some weight lifting trying to drag your bike around on the hill. And still fooking walk down and back to Akaroa Head Lighthouse (another foo-foo valve broken).

Ok, so sometimes tis not his fault and the weather doesn't play ball, like doing Mt Rochfort Just look at that stunning vista in the second shot!
     photo DSC00509_zpsyoj9uyqq.jpg
     photo DSC00510_zpsssbhvkyi.jpg

But every now and then, you get some really stunning shots:
     photo DSC00305_zpsmmi0brvw.jpg
Lake Lyndon around 8pm, and even got the moon in the shot!

     photo DSC00625_zpsqut64knd.jpg
Rai Falls. Finally some experimenting with the point and shoot paid off.

Most importantly however, at the end of all that, you storm the leaderboard, topping it, and showing those South Island buggers with little sub 650cc bikes how to do it. Priceless

Haha, just got back to internet connection and your post has put a smile on my face! A challenge is what it's all about right?

Looks like you have another GS on your heels, Topher claimed another 20ish Mototokens today! And after flaunting your 1st place glory as a North Islander perhaps this may motivate a serious challenge time will tell…

As a foreigner invading your lusty isle, I expect the inhabitants to try to re-claim some of their dignity It's probably more satisfying now that two R1200GSA are leading the board

Currently I do less than a trip a year south, so with very few tokens on my doorstep it's inevitable. However, I'm going to milk it while I got it

Real nice spot that I popped in there on Sunday for a look/swim. Pelorous was heaving with people swimming but there was nobody at the Rai falls. I think you may have spured me into action to go get some Mototokens, I've been to busy yakking and fishing to ride the bike since I got back from the North island

    Stay tuned.....
