No one has blamed the cops yet, that I can tell. But I, for one, get sick of the "we weren't chasing it, just following" line.
I'd have thought that crap was thoroughly discredited after the cops were found to have lied about the bike v car fatal at Whangarei.
Luckily the right person died, but what if it had been the mother and baby?
Is a ticket for doing doughnuts worth that?

"Peter Shearman watched the pursuit as the police chased the vehicle from Pages Road along Buckleys Road.

It was amazing to see the occupants of the vehicles walk out, although they were covered in blood, Shearman said.

"If the cops had pulled out earlier way back, it wouldn't have made any difference because these guys were going for it. Nobody touched him; he just lost it," Shearman said...........

Andrew Pritchard, who just avoided the smash, said he was surprised the accident was not worse.

"Both the cars (the white Pontiac and the Subaru) sort of leapt up in the air and spun around," he said.

"There wasn't as much blood and guts as I thought there was going to be. There was a baby from the Subaru which had a bit of blood on its head, but it appeared to be all right," he said.

A bystander said people could not believe what they were seeing.

"The police car appeared to be a reasonable distance back. Those idiots in the white car obviously couldn't give a stuff," he said.

Inspector Gary Knowles, of the Christchurch police, said criminal, serious-crash unit and Police Complaints Authority investigations had been launched.

"We weren't chasing the car. The vehicle was stopped by police earlier, and it took off," he said.

"It was not a close pursuit. My understanding from initial witnesses is the police car was some distance from it."

Police appeared to have acted according to "protocols", but communications tapes were being analysed to check everything was done properly.. ...

I see where you are coming from. The funny thing for me is even though I have 90 demerits like you and my job also rests on the license, my bike isn't even remotly capable of running from a Class Gold Pursuit officer. If I had an R1 though, that might be a different story

Like you said, everyone disagrees with someone elses point of veiw. And nah, don't worry, there is no way I would think of you as a fuckwit mate. You ride like a fucken demon and you are cool as ice on top of it too.

What kind of complete and utter moron would do a runner to 'very near death' just to avoid a speeding ticket? Its not the Polices fault that he considers his life to be less important than a fine, its evolution in progress nothing more.

You and Winja really would make a beautiful couple. He might be a bit intellectual for you but I'm sure your physical attraction would overcome that.

Occurs to me that, of course, we only hear about the runners that go wrong. Maybe there's heaps of people doing it and getting away with it. They're not likely to be fool enough to boast about it, and the police will keep silent.

Dunno. Seems particulary pointless on both sides in this instance, since the police already knew who they were.

Too true Ixion. I'd love to know the numbers of pursuits now, compared to 10 years ago.
    It'd be very enlightening.

The difference between Aaron and me, and others both on this site and off, is that we're quite open about our attitudes toward it. There's a lotta people who share our attitude, they just keep their mouths shut. You won't see me posting any details about times, dates and locations.

It's always funny to hear the bollocks some people spout (no, not having a crack at anyone in particular). You get spud and scumdog et al saying "oh, some get away but we catch most". Guess that must put me in the upper echelons of runners, cos I've been caught three times for running (incl cars & bikes), and charged only twice. I can assure you, 3 out of mumble mumble are bloody good odds in my book. And then you get those tossers who say "you can't outrun the radio". Give me a break - how does a radio stop a bike doing 250k? You need to have a car/bike/cop attached to that radio in the right place at the right time to be of any use. Mostly they're not.

If I had stopped every time, I'd have bought the Highway Patrol by now. I won't pretend I like getting busted, particularly not for a decent runner attempt, that'd be expensive. But spread it over the last 50 times I did a runner and got away with it? It's economically viable.

So bring on the red bling for my "irresponsible attitude"... tell me I'm gonna kill someone... If I cared what you thought, I'd lie to you and say I never do 'em.

Umm... so were the pigs chasing or not? The TV3 footage I saw said the cops were chasing. You're explanation here said they were chasing. So I guess we agree that they were chasing?

Distance between cop and offender is irrelevant. A "friend" of mine had occasion to open it up on a HP unit, and when said friend checked their mirrors after 20sec or so of solid acceleration (speedo getting near 250ish by now), there were still flashing headlights in the background - admittedly hundreds of metres back. Was that a pursuit or not? But you don't think the bike just eased back to the 70km/h speed limit and continued on their merry way just cos the cop was almost outta sight?

Well put....each to there own aye, Madboy, Winga, myself and about 10 other bikers i know, do it...its just the way it is the rest are all goody goods, its a topic that will always be heated and there is (IMO) no right or wrong Im not a complete plonka i know its wrong(legaly speaking), dangerous for others and my self but im a bike riding addict, i cant stop riding the way i do, just like Indoo could be in2 kiddy porn, he knows its wrong but he's an addict. we all have our weeknesses some worse than others, if the coppers think casing someone to death is justified and the country agrees then so be it, I personaly would like to see kiddy fiddlers decapitated, but unfortunatly the majority dosent agree...

Im guessing you mean the Erin Burgess crash where some idiot biker plowed into her car while trying to do a runner (would never happen to Madboy or R1 Aaaron of course).

I'm not sure where you get your info that there was a coverup, given that just on the news tonight they stated that a third investigation into it backing up a previous coroners inquest and another one had all cleared the Police of lieing and covering up the facts.
