Fuel Economy

I get about 38 km per litre when I commute at 80kph and 35 at full throttle (95-100). Got 42km/litre when on an "economy" run! Does over 400 km per tank but it's just too underpowered on the open road and I don't like riding on the hard shoulder all the time.

22.8 kms per litre on the GB400 averaging around 105kph. 320kms out of the 14 ltr main.

My bike's an RF900 - and I've been tracking it for a while now. Commuting (i.e. 3rd gear splitting through traffic to amnd from work) I get

6.4l/100kms

or...

15.625 kms/ litre

I don't have enough data for the open road, but it seems to be 20% better than that (or so...)

That's interesting to read. I've seen anywhere from 13.5km/l to 16km/l from my RF900. The open road figure depends on whether it is highway touring or a weekend ride The last running average I calculated (mixed riding) was 13.9km/l (39mpg).

Checked mine on the Northam trip - 50.8 mpg.
Not bad I reckon out of a 1litre bike. After the 6000km service, I'm wondering whether it might improve. I'll be checking.

What's that in KPL? I'd work it out myself, but I don't know if you are using US. or UK. gallions Funny thing is your riding a Litre bike and you are talking about it's 6000Km service, yet you are working it's fuel economy in miles per gallion:slap:

Ran out of petrol once. There was when I learn't that I had a 14 litre + 3.3 litre reserve tank.

Around town I get 280-300kms before reserve. Open road 140-220kms before reserve.

Used the diesel Ute to day to pick-up "Roxanne's" new "dress" from AK (see http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...6&postcount=38) today. Did a fuel economy check for comparison as I was covering a very similar route. The Ute was 9.54KPL. With Diesel @ 97.9 cents per litre and the 96 @ $1.57/L, the Ute was doing 9.74Km/$ (not counting diesel miles) and the bike was doing 9.75Km/$. So much for bikes being cheaper to run , but I know which one I prefur

I've not had my bike for long so wouldn't have a clue about fuel economy.

I filled it to the top the other day, but was wondering roughly how many k's I would get from it before it needs filling again?

I mostly ride the commute from Mission Bay to Auckland CBD, but also a bit of a blat at the weekend as well.

Was thinking I should get at least 150ks from it before it needs filling again, but was after some advice about the reserve. This is gonna sound noobish, but do I assume it'll cut out when it runs outta gas, then I switch onto reserve and get another 30-40ks out of it?

One last question... do you guys keep your tanks topped off, or run them deliberately low so as to carry less petrol as weight?

50.8 mpg Imperial. Mmmm. 1.609344Km/Mile. 4.54609L/UK gal. That means that there is ruffly 0.354KPL to 1mpg. Therefore 50.8mpg is ruffly 17.98Km/L. Not bad. Funny thing is that I've just found metric fuel consumption expressed as L/100Km ( not Km/L, WTF??) and is the inverse of how I look at it :slap:

For the GS1200SS, I get around 18 - 19 km/l solo and 16 - 17 km/l with a pillion. Either way I plan on 280 - 310 km between fills.

On the RE5 its only 11 km/l for hard riding and 10 km/l if I take it easy. Either way I'm looking for a fuel stop at 140 - 160 km.

I used to get not much more than 200kms per tank on my ol gs!
