True that, but in retrospect that wee inclusion in the specs but not in the write up is dodgy and borderline but yet legal I guess

Just geta bike a go for it. Inspect all the suspension ponts fo excess play and try to budget for a piston at least.

And lastly, never ride alone. long walks to carparks are quite tedious.
Good advice and to add, if you get into dirtriding it won't be your first bike so don't worry about getting the perfect bike first attempt!

Even the 200 would be a good bike for a beginner in my opinion, they can still be a load of fun. I manage to keep up with my mates drz400 in the rougher stuff on my 200, but he pulls away on the smoother bits.
But I just have to be braver so he doesn't loose me altogether.

Yes there is nothing wrong with the 200, it's just not as easy to wheely as the 250 is all.

And that's why an old school trailie will make a good rider. You have to try harder.

My brother cant catch me on his 07 dr 200, so I must be braver than him as well considering my dr is 30 yrs old .
I have an 07 dr 200 as well, but prefer to ride the oldie. Apart from the odd time I flood it and have to kick the shit out of the lever instead of just pushing the button.

    better tell this guy.....

I wore out the can bearings on my first XR200 doing too many wheelies.
Could clutch it up in top gear on the road.
I always found it much harder on the 250's, but both were the twin shock models, may be a whole load different on the prolinks

    Oh fuck...

I didn't read this thread until now because I was busy last night and had work today. I went to view the xr250r "200cc" and agreed to buy it... Deposited money and everything already. Bloody hell...

I don't mind though. It will be enough to hit the trails I reckon. I can barely ride it though. Too scared of falling off and it is too high up off the ground compared to my road bike and so much other stuff. Can't corner it properly etc. It honestly feels so weird to ride, I hope I can get used to it all.

Does anyone have another 200/250cc bike for my friend to buy around the 1500 mark?

Might even take the 250cc for myself and flick him this one as he has never even ridden a bike before.

Also if anyone has some riding pants size 36?

Also what other gear do you guys recommend? I will get an MX type of helmet as the road bike helmet will be too uncomfortable I reckon.

It will be fine. Just ride it. Plenty of cheap lids at Cycletreads, think they have a trail bike sale. Make sure you get all matching gear. Apparently thats important.

Yeah I'm sure it'll be okay. Know any good places on the north shore to go riding?

Also I need boots. Size 10 if anyone has any for sale. Trying to do this all as cheaply as possible sooo you get the idea.

Pretty excited to get out there!

Gotta pick up the bike tomorrow, I am attempting to put it on a regular box trailer with straps.

Should be good. I had a xl185s and it was fun even without the prolink suspension.

Unfortunately I think those days are gone, when I was a young fella we had heaps of places around albany we could ride, or all the scrubby tracks between Glamorgan drive and Glenvar road. Even the motorway when it was being built was good once it got past sunset rd down past the shit ponds.
I know all this aint helping you though.
Part of the reason I left the place was because it was getting harder to find places to play, went to Pakiri for a while, but that is fucked now too I hear.
