Mine did that when I got it and a bigger idle jet sorted it.
Couple of weeks and I could be up for a blast round thundercross park if your up for it. Im slow and hopeless so you can watch me fall off all the time.

Pretty sure it was mentioned earlier that the bike has a different engine in it, i.e. ts a 250 frame, and a 200 engine, possibly from different years . . .
Given its vintage, I wouldnt bother with an hour meter. give it a clean after each ride, and a look over. change oil regularly, and they more or less last forever.
the different riding position will be hard to get used to, and knobbly tyres vs treaded tyres, and smooth road vs uneven dirt surfaces will take a little getting used to.
When you get the manual, I would make sure the carb settings are where they should be - the manual will explain this, that should help stop it cutting out on you
For bits and peices, if you dont particularly like using your local dealer then these guys have been pretty good in the past, Ive used several times

One of my computers has the XR200 manual on it. I will have a look a bit later on.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I have found a manual that has the correct pictures for the idle screw and idle mixture screw etc. It was the XR200R 1989 manual. Will have a go at adjust it tomorrow. Seems easy enough.
One last stupid question. The choke that is under the fuel tank. Currently it sits with the little lever engaged against arm. If I move the lever upwards then it disengages/contact between the lever and the actuator arm. Which way should it be? While the bike is idling if I move the lever upwards the bike dies. Found the answer in the manual, I had scrolled over it too fast before!
I could be keen if my mate is sorted by then too
As for the bigger idle jet, I had a play with the idle screw and there is plenty of rotation left to bring the idle up. However I can't make a final decision without making sure the mixture is correct first which I will do tomorrow.
Sorry yeah I mean I need to adjust the mixture and the manual says it'll maybe affect my idle so I will need to adjust that then. I'm sure it'll all come right tomorrow. If not I'll come on here and complain
Yeah, looks like XR200 1989 is the right model![]()
Just use it as is for couple of rides then get a 250 2t
mixin gas and kickin ass
I keep being told I'll outgrow it fast. I'll see what happens. Problem is I can't afford to upgrade to a bigger more expensive bike as I need to be able to sell all my toys end of next year or so and not make a huge loss so I can put it towards a house depost. Toys can come way later after that. Just having some fun for now.
I've got a Gas Gas Pampera 250 that is taking up space in the shed.

My mate just bought a bike and got a full set of gear including boots and helmet too. RIDES ON!
I heard there's something on like a farm ride this weekend near hunua? The seller mentioned it too. However I think we'll both find a little empty land and ride around on it this weekend. He has never ridden a motorbike before so needs to get used to the clutch, shifting gears and the whole riding a motorbike thing first. Iron out any issues we may have and then go from there.
