I need 2 cheapy dirt bikes and advice

I heard there's something on like a farm ride this weekend near hunua? The seller mentioned it too. However I think we'll both find a little empty land and ride around on it this weekend. He has never ridden a motorbike before so needs to get used to the clutch, shifting gears and the whole riding a motorbike thing first. Iron out any issues we may have and then go from there.

Go Out to Thunder X Bike park in Mercer. Ask James where the learners track is at the top of the hill.
Do and hour or two there then have a go at the B track. Weather should be good

You'll have fun as!!!

+1. Yeah I like the place. Ive not gone on the learners track as it says its for kids. I went straight out onto B track.

If he's never ridden a bike before the top paddock is big enough up there if they stay away from the Kiddies ( if there are any there wasn't 3 weeks ago).

We always go up there and set up the gazebo and BBQ as my lady is learning.
Good access to the other tracks at the far end for a 1/2 loop and full loop if you go down the road.

The other great place id the farm but thats a weekend trip.

Cheers guys thundercross is definetly on the list! Maybe in a few weeks.

We both have bikes now but as for that DR350, I don't really trust it. Just dumping a larger top end on a motor? AND he says viewing recommended and AS IS sale. Always rings alarm bells.

That dr looks alright to me.
Would be good once you get some confidence, but 400 probably a bit much for a noobie.

I wouldn't touch that dr350 unless you wanted a project.

The most i thought they can be taken out to is 380 which was a common mod in the day. In fact my friend has a very tidy one , even has the period 'cobra' muffler and i have a kiwi rider article where they test a modded one. There is no way that you can start it without using the decompression lever, the kickstart won't move at all so i am unsure about this '400'.

Oh i see you have got your bikes sorted. At some stage see if you can pull the xr swing arm pivot and get some grease in there.

I can see older xr,s increasing in value as vintage enduro becomes more popular.

True. I think 380 was it on standard sleeve and was the most common mod in NZ back in the day.

Always liked the 350 especially with the cartridge forks and fcr carb. Great adventure bike, air cooled and six speed.

The guy that owns it wont be the one set it up.
Im picking that guy made a great bike and as long as its had oil changes and some love since or done low millage would be a good deal.
Something loved enough to have been kitted out is usually well looked after.

ask on here what they are like if iffy conditions as some turn to shit if it rains

this weekends Mr Motorcycles ride for instance is pretty OK dry but is slippery as when wet, if you get to a track and it is wet but not raining let the people take the surface of first as it usually gets better if it has a solid base and stays dry

Thanks for the links, I'll check them out! Going to take the bikes to a quite patch of grass near mine this weekend. Going to iron out the logistics of loading/unloading two on the ute, how the brakes etc feel and also service them and all that. Pretty excited!

Leathel is right on the farm rides. They are great fun. And you dont need to be super skilled to do them. Once or twice at Thundercross and you will be fine.

Im hopeless and I make it round.

I should really do a course sometime.
