Hey guys my friend and I went out for a ride today. Mainly was to practice loading/ unloading the bikes, strapping them down, then ironing out any issues that may arise. Glad we did that as we have had a few issues come up.

One was that the fuel line on my friend's bike from the fuel cock to the carb was leaking so we replaced that.

My bike after a bit of riding today started heavily misfiring and wouldn't pull in the higher RPM. It would then sputter and die out as I accelerated. After I leave it for a bit then start it up it blew out black smoke and then idles fine and revs fine. But then after riding fine for a bit it'll misfire etc and die out again... If I ride it at low RPM and take it easy it'll still sputter mildly but be rideable.
Any ideas? I'm thinking maybe fuel filter and also replace spark plug for starters. Would it be a carby issue? It was meant to have been rebuilt in september and not ridden much if at all since then.

Also it had a full tank of gas but I had left it in reserve during the ride if that makes a difference.

Could be float valve in the carb. Cheap fix if it is. Does sound like it.

Yeah, sounds like a float issue. Should be an easy fix.

Alright cheers guys. I would have thought Botany honda would have set all that correctly but I have been looking for an excuse to rip the bike apart anyway. I'll clean out the carby while I'm there too. Easier than a car that's for sure!

They may have set the carb correctly, but it is easy enough for some crap to get from the tank to the needle valve and stop it from seating correctly.

Pulled apart the carby and cleaned the whole thing out, there was some debris in the float bowl but everything works as it should. I thought the high speed needle jet may be blocked but it didn't appear to be. Anyways I put it all back together and it still ran terribly like the last time I rode it.
But then after loads of dicking around with it not starting up after dying mid ride again I managed to get it started with the throttle fully open, it won't start up otherwise.
I then adjusted the idle mixture screw once it was warm and raised the idle. It seems to run okay not, no misfiring or hesitations or dying on me. I have no idea what may have caused the issues I had before. Any ideas?

Also we took apart my mate's TT225 and the boot between the engine and carburettor is fully wrecked. Can't buy it from the dealer as yamaha don't make them anymore. Any ideas on that too?

You may find a similar year XT225 or TT250 etc etc may share the same boot, but your dealer should be able to tell you this or not, if all else fails try NI wreckers and then i'm sure they would be available off Ebay in the States.

On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '

Yeah the XT225 boot apparently is 1mm larger on the carburettor side but they want $148 for it!

Thanks for the ebay links, could be an option but I reckon I will try get something machined up that will take some generic piping. Just need access to a machine shop tomorrow. Tough this close to christmas, anyone have hookups on the north shore??

Even a grinder could work so I can round the full face of the engine mounting flange so I can attach some hose with a hose clamp

If you have the part number try this lot for a quote. http://www.jp-parts.com/?gclid=CKDw7...FcVKpgodAkafnQ

I use them almost exclusively now for parts for my DT 230. Great service and genuine parts. Probably not the cheapest option but hassle free.
