My old XR had a bit of bicycle tube wrapped round the rubber manifold with cable ties round it. I took it off the manifold and it ran like shit. So I put it back on. Ran great. Rough but worked.
You could try Ronnies Mail order as well
Your part is here if I have the correct model etc

They have heaps of stuff for old bikes![]()
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!
'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '
You may be on to something! I'm half tempted to epoxy what is remaining of the rubber manifold as most of it is still intact and rest can be well sealed if I epoxy. However I'm worried the vibrations will cause cracks then. But I'll see if I can get some bicycle tube and make something too. What a great idea! Can be an interim fix so we can get out riding again.
Yep that's the right part! Will get in touch with them too. Thanks for that![]()
Tape, you can just about fix anything with the right amount of tape.![]()

I went and found a wide rubber strip, glued it around the tube and cable tied it to hold it together. That should seal up any broken leaks.
However today when we put the bike back together it wouldn't start. There is spark and plenty of air passing through but not a drop of fuel. Spent the whole afternoon trying to figure out what the hell the issue could be and after I get home and do some digging, it comes down to float heights. Which would make sense because I slightly bent the forked tab the needle sits on to bring it closer to the other tab below it because the needle was jamming up against the walls of the cylinder it sits within if the floats were allowed to drop down to their lowest height (does that make sense?). So by bending the forked tab it stopped doing that and moved freely up and down but not down far enough to get jammed up. Now I presume there isn't enough fuel sitting in the float bowl to start the bike.
Does anyone know the right float height for a yamaha tt225? I can't find any manuals for it
Also while we're at it, float height for my honda XR200R?
Thanks!
Get a piece of clear hose the right size to fit over the drain nipple on the bottom of the carb bowl, then run it up the side of the carb and you will see what hight the fuel is sitting at when you undo the drain screw.![]()

but how do I know what the right height is?
Thanks, I was going to set it at that after a load of searching and no result. Get is as level as I can with the bowl and go from there. Although there are some carbies that have the fuel height a mm or two above the bowl. Wish me luck lads, going to try sort it out today!
Didn't fuckin work. Plenty of fuel in the carby but nothing being sucked in. I figure the boot between engine and carby is leaking so much that the air gets pulled in from there rather than from the airbox.
Sucks to be us.
Ratshit. Look at it this way, once you figure a way to get it working, you will feel like a champ.
Unless you give up that is.![]()

Nah won't be giving up, we haven't even had a decent ride yet! It's an easy fix, only reason it's taking so long is because all the places we need are closed for christmas. The plan is to cut a new flange without the stupid beveled portion and instead have a proper round nozzle for the hose to clamp on to. Then go to hydraulink and perhaps find some hose there that'll fit.
The original boot has broken before, the last owner had replaced it with a random one and cut out bits to suit the flange, however that means it's held against the flange by tension of the airbox pushing against the carb rather than clamped or moulded around the flange.
Where can I buy an different idle fuel screw for my XR200?
When I turn it all the way out, the bike idles like shit, however as I turn it all the way in it starts running better and keeps on getting better until the screw is all the way in.
I suppose I need a larger needle?
Also we got my mate's bike started. Bought a carburettor boot all the way from hawera, thanks to Bailey motorcycles! She started right up because the carby is finally drawing air in from the intake rather than from the cracked boot.
However now it's started blowing a lot of white smoke and when left iding it turns into blue smoke. What the fuck.
Also camped out 3 nights at The Farm (www.thefarm.co.nz), great place! Few friends and I did dirt biking. Got a solid 2 hours in and only costed $80 including bikes and gear! In fact we loved it so much that we're booking another trip next week just to get a day of dirt biking done on saturday. There was also a dirt biking competition on, all the riders were amazing. Also in disbelief at how good the kids are. Can't wipe their own asses but clear bigger jumps than I'd dream of!
