    Traffic in Auckland

Well this is strange, what on earth happened to the 8 o Clock rush hour?

EDIT: Day was Tuesday not Monday
On Tuesday I got up late (8 ish). Left home at 8:30 to head to bakery (about 10 minutes away). Would have gotten on the motorway at about 8:40.

I arrived at Auckland Uni from Manukau (~20km) at 8:55. I didn't see a car until I reached Ellerslie. Had 4 people talk about it at Uni, some of them had caught the express that wasn't meant to be at Uni until 10, and they were there at 9:10.

I thought it must have just been a fluke, then this morning I tried the same thing. There was an accident just before Papatoetoe so when I got on the motorway nothing was moving. Waited 10 minutes on the motorway. Then bam it all cleared, got to Uni at about 9:05.

Maybe the petrol prices have finally cleared up Auckland Traffic

Went through all the normal sources I could think off, but nothing else makes any sense. The Unis aren't off (At least Auckland, Massey and AUT aren't) and the schools aren't off.

Will repeat exact same steps tommorow to see if it still happens.

Since riding to the bakery takes me past two different schools I noticed something else. Primary school kids wave at you as you go past.

Can't say the same, I'm working out Puke way at the mo, and there seems to be shite loads of Jafa's trying to be farmers.

The traffic out there is constant. No matter what time I go out, there is always traffic.

But your probably right, the price of petrol has probably put off a lot of people.

It was normal enough for me today, 1 southbound from the city was fairly busy too.

I've noticed this all my life - as we move into spring, sunrise is earlier....but it happens with a bang,so many cloudy days, then one morning you wake up in bright sunshine with the birds chirping.SHIT!! Must of slept in! You race out of bed,get dress and race off to work,no cars on the road...oh jeez, the boss is gunna kill me! But when you get there you are early??

The traffic is normal - it's spring,go and do some rutting.

Actually I've noticed less cage-dwellers on the motorway in the morning lately too (manukau to CBD fringe) figured it is the cost of petrol, just enjoying it while it lasts

I definately thinks the N/W'ern is thinning out nearly as fast as my hair, not so much related to the cost of gas but the lenght of time the gas has been in the news. Why don't we all be journo's a nd write heaps of shit about how its so bad and no-one should drive and boycot gas co's by not using cars on windy roads on sunny days etc?

Exactly the same this morning. That's 3 days in a row now. Now if only it'd stay the same for the rest of this semester.

not really related but saw the best use of confirminators this afternoon, pug in right lane of two, starts indicating right then slowly moves over in to the left lane causing the person there to have to brake to avoid an accident

Heavier on the NW this morning. Had a pulse racing moment too. Flet like customising their door but the guys in front of me hounded him and gave him shit for ages so I split off.

I commuted from Henderson to Mt Roskill for a year, and it was the most eratic commute I've ever done, leaving at the same time every day my trip to work could vary 30min from one day to the next, and I could never figure out why. Some days it would be WTF and grid lock, other times where is everyone?? I could only put it down to shift workers, sometimes they stack up all at the same time. Now I do a 90km trip in and my time never changes by more than 5 mins.
