Crank seals for the YG1 question

Just about to look at replacing the crank seals and looking at ways of obtaining them.
They are available on Ebay but the price for sending them from USA or UK is pretty darn expensive compared to the purchase price.

So,...got me thinking. One of them (magneto side) is a 20x47x7-620E. Now I can obtain a 20x47x7 oil seal here in NZ relatively easily. Was wondering what the "-620E" means though? How relevant is it? Is it specific for the crank seal purpose?

    Cheers

Would be a directional seal, I would have thought. Try some of the local oil seal suppliers, we have one here in gore that is pretty helpful, and can get me most things bearing and seal related. Worth a shot.

Thanks for that I thought it may be a Yamaha code.

The suffix may relate to the external shape of the seal - it may have a raised ridge for location.
I've used over the counter seals on small 2 strokes and the only real drawback is life expectancy. Seals made for the job often have a coating on the lip which is low friction and low wear....You pays yer money...
What you need to do is find a shop in NZ with a good parts man - and one which doesn't charge an enormous surcharge over RRP...Try well out of town.

Thanks Grumph. I'll do some more research into it. Vintage Yamaha parts are getting harder to find in NZ unfortunately. Pattern stuff seems to be mainly Honda.

Yeah Jelly, Murray Smith is the man. Fanatical Yamaha fan and seal expert.
I just happened to spot the YG1. My first bike in 1965 wow! all 80ccs of it.

You'd never go hungry with Nigella Gaz.

Phoned Murray yesterday, yup he is the man !! Knew exactly what I needed and has them in stock. Plus gave me a whole lot of useful info about the YG-1. So, off to get the seals tomorrow for the weekend. Just have to convince the boss-lady that money has to be allocated for restoration project ....eeek..... He also said that Paragon Motorcycles in Wanganui (Whanganui?) is a good place to start for looking for vintage Yami parts.

Nah wasn't his but I have had it for (I think ) about 16-17 years. BTW did you ever do that T125 project? Was an interesting concept.
