If the clutch cable is long enough, you can get a hacksaw blade, carefully cut the outer sheath at the lever end, which should give you some more inner cable.
If you can get about 30mm of inner then you can poke it thru where the nipple in the picture would be and put a small bolt thru ( find one on the bike that is not important)
Have done this on a Norton and BMW previously.

omg, you guys are legend, but very special christmas thanks to unstuck, such a bloddy hero. on my way to a hacksaw not to take 10 cm off the casing of one of the cables, then it is golden. both ends fit fine.

About those wondering about the. boatride: $300 already payed and no refund or way to move it, so I rather went along. also keeps the partner happy

off I am, will let you know when its done.

    Just ... wow ...

Would hope someone would do the same for me one day, plus it is a nice wee detour on the way to invercargill from gore.

Would have left some tools for you too, but I'm not that nice.
Good luck with it and I hope it gets you moving.

hacksaw from camp ground - check
amazing unstuck who is our santa's parts - check

took me longer than expected to get 10 cm off the funnel, but maybe I was just super careful not to touch the cable. long story short, it works! some creativity was required to get the extra length in without a radius to small.

That fix is solid, i would say. even if the handlebar end gives a little because there now is not brass cap finishing the funnel off, its still good.

That will get us through the next 1-2000km if need be. what I have heard so far from dealers is that no one stocks spares for TA's in NZ. The weekend looks good.

Massive thanks to Mac from the Mobile in Te Anau for pulling us out of the Von Road, tips and support from you all and another speicial thanks to Unstuck.

... oh, and the "cruise" was lovely

Anyway, good luck and enjoy the rest of your trip.

Well Done unstuck helping out like that.

rocinante. I think you mentioned somewhere that you are from or going to WGTN. there is a company just out of Wellington in the Hutt that well make cables called Melbar cables. http://www.melbarcables.co.nz They should be able to make you a cable if you can't find a stock one. I have used them in the past but not for a few years.

Maybe a tip for others cruising our country at this time of year, carry a couple of Bug/ barrel nuts. They are ok to get you moving again, but would not rely on them for a lot of work.

+1 and in an emergency an electrical terminal from Bunnings or M10 will get you moving.( earth ones are better as they have two screws)

Well I think from today a few more of my spares are going to start living on the bike somewhere... lots of ingenuity from all in this thread.
