Stuck at Te Anau - broken clutch on Honda TA

thanks for the link, will check it out. the honda spare is quite expensive as i remember and if they can solder or crimp the nipple / barrel properly than this should be good. still keen to find out why they break every 20000 on my bike ...

as to the status: we went to Milford Sound with the improvised cable. The clutch was good after assambly but started to 'seize' and become unworkable after 10 uses. turns out that the handlebar "cradle" / screw thing is conical and would squeeze the end of the funnel now without a propper cap on the end until the cable got pinced.

back in Te Anau, I got some more stuff from M10. a washer around the cable did the trick in the end and We got to Tuatapere with full use of the cluch.

Yep, that was some fairly heavy rain last evening. Off to Bluff today then I guess?
Off to Dunedin myself today, but there are plenty of good buggers around the south if you run into any more problems.

Yes, made it to Bluff, and to Slope Point and Nugget Point for good measure. It's still holding, but to be sure I have a new clutch cable waiting for me with the nice people of Casbolts Motorcycle in ChCh before driving up to attack the molesworth road.

The Caitlins really held up to all promisses, with weather to match. Got a new front tyre just now in Alexandra. NZ roads really eat that rubber ...

Too late now..but for future consideration..you can also use a plastic electrical chocolate block to bridge the broken cable. Cut the cable somewhere with strong and sharp cutters to get two clean cut ends and screw each end into a block terminal. That way you can often retain the original bar end nipple to refit to clutch lever. These terminal blocks are pretty easy to scrounge up - as opposed to asking Te Anau residents for a motorcycle cable. Hope all ended well for you guys.

nice idea but the normal MO here is the cable breaks right next to the nipple

My experience of helping someone off here was a bit different. A couple of Auckland faggots had a flat tyre at a motel about 20km from my place, took a pump & all the shit to sort it.
They stood around like helpless fuckwits & couldn't even be arsed pumping the pump. No thanks or fuckin nothing.
Looked like they had probably been rowdy morons the night before & another motel guest had loosened their valve to teach them a lesson. Their solution was to go to Auckland two up on the other bike & come back with a ute (200km each way) next time I'd let them do that.
