    Kawasaki EN500 fuel petcock?

I was just wondering if someone can please explain a step by step guide for the positions of the petcock, I know when the bike feels like its going to run out of gas its time to switch to the reserve direction but unsure of the other 3 fuel-Prime-On

    Usually 3 positions.

On = on, but only when engine running and opening the vacuum valve in the petcock.
Reserve = same as above but from lower in the tank
Prime = fuel on all the time.
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987

And avoid leaving the fuel tap in the Prime position - especially with a full tank.

Thanks heaps guys. I just found out that the on direction means nothing so I mostly need to have it in fuel direction.

    12 Oclock = Res
    3 O'clock = Prime
    10 O'clock = Fuel
6 O'clock= On which is the 4th one just to confuse me.
So I'm presuming I need to have it on the fuel direction correct me if I'm wrong
