Radar Detectors - Who has them

Thinking about putting a radar detector on the zx9r, has anyone done this ? What detectors have been used ?

Have you had to get custom mount for them? Ive seen a chap with a gixxer 1k and a nice valentine sitting on a pedastal tucked under the blade. this is looking like a good option to me, any other possbile mounting points ?

    Cheers

Do a search, there are heaps of threads here on radars (and jammers). You will find radar direct have mounts that fit most modern bikes and most people find the Escort is a good bike radar

I've got an old Valentine 1, does the business as well as any detector does. But I don't bother running it on the bike, just leave it for the car. Quite a few people have them in a similar setup to the gixxer you mentioned. Someone posted what models are best for the earpiece thingeys. I don't think it was V1.

All the high end detectors are excellent. Valentine is best (but I would say that).]
Contact discountbay, Ryan is a good guy and does great deals. He has mounts too. Or you could contact Pixie for a custom mount and helmet speaker set-up.

    Detector mount

This is probably the type of mount you're talking about. As well as a search on detectors, do one on screamers too (sound-boosting aid for high speed as an alternative to a helmet speaker or visual alarm.

hmm they take up a lot of room dont they... I like the idea of the screamer, as the earpeice bit doesnt appeal to me at all, i didnt really like the idea of blocking out any guages

I just found it was a waste of time and money, it was ok around town if ya wanted to do a wheelie away from lights and stuff it would let you know if there were any coppers around, and it did work once on the open road, it was a Bell and very expensive, and had a good range and didnt go off at shit around town, but with the coppers having instant on radar and shit it just didnt give me the securaty i wanted( i dont think anything other than the speed limit can) so i dont bother with the detector now, and i dont bother stopping either...

My Cobra I got off Trade Me it has an earpiece jack for $189, though i have yet to get a earpiece but so far have not needed one. Not that I ride at excessive speeds these days. Going to the Cold Kiwi I picked up a cop on the radar unit at the summit of the Desert Rd but the cop was 6 kms down the road already writting out a ticket to a cage I was somewhat impressed with that. I find that the screen helps in hearing the unit go off somehow, directing the sound back towards me. Though I did contribute to the government fund one morning going to work and what do you know... the one morning I forgot to hook up the unit 12kph over and $120

National had better get in this time and stay true to their word about low end speeding.

Bels are expensive, but if our experience is anything to go by, not necessarily good.
Quasi and I put our radar detectors to the big test on the way down to Manfield earlier this year: His Bel vs my Escort.
    My Escort would bleep away.
Quasi would call "haha False alarm, sucker!"
We'd see a cop a few seconds later
His would go off a few seconds more later
I would say "haha, you would've been busted, loser!"

V-1 or Escort are the ones to get.
