Ryan at discount bay ltd is a great guy. HE gave me excellent service and good prices. His mounts are top notch the wiring kits are complete to the last bit and he ships rapidly. What more could you ask.

Quasi and I put our radar detectors to the big test on the way down to Manfield earlier this year: His Bel vs my Escort.
    My Escort would bleep away.
Quasi would call "haha False alarm, sucker!"
We'd see a cop a few seconds later
His would go off a few seconds more later
I would say "haha, you would've been busted, loser!"

V-1 or Escort are the ones to get.
Escort and BEL have the same guts in a different case. Must have been another reason for the non-performance.

    Detectors

I'm running Valentine 1 on home made pedestal mounted in steering stem. V1 is secured with rubber bands (cheep & takes vibrations out) - pm me for explanation if interested. Remote earpiece consists of a piece of clear plastic tubing secured to sounder side of V1 near the speaker with the other end tucked up inside helmet just in front of ear. Stays secure in helmet and works suprizingly well ( piped music to the ear when it goes off).

Too fu*ken late. Rynn should have returned my PM's (saw he had read them). Ended up picking up an Excort 8500 X50 from Hoi Chui (Wonn) radar2go@gmail.com for $459 using TradeMe. She looked after me well and was a lot cheaper than Rynn (who is over $500 for the Escort now).

The Valentine-One rep was down at my mate's store topping up the stock a couple of weeks back. Now he said the internals of the V-1 and Escort were the same, the only difference was the V-1 had the directional (front/rear) indicator.

    Now who's right?

Yep, got a valentine one too. Made by the same guy who invented the escorts (i think), and although it was expensive it has actually saved me money and demerit points. There's also the peace of mind factor, which is great (i can do 120 without continously looking behind me).
I'd suggest getting an LED transmitter as well though. Its a little box thats sits on your radar and sends a wireless signal to a flashing red light in the in the visor of your helmet. Saves having to use an earpiece (a big hassle for me), but cost is around 3-400 extra. Hope that helps!

A while back I looked around at jammers and detectors and HARD systems but couldn't afford it. I lose some demerits soon. Then I can afford to get caught again but will also look at some assistance to not getting caught. In the last 12 months I have had 3 tickets none for faster than 116. That gets right up me. Esp when I see (regularly) someone way exceeding a speed limit in my 50km/h neighbourhood. Grrrrrrrr

That is totally wrong, Mike Valentine worked for Escort so some components are similar but there is no way they use all the same bits. The twin antennas alone require very different processors.
It's Bel and Escort that are the same company.
Besides, there is no Valentine rep in NZ. Valentine only sell to Radar Direct. All the others are grey imports.

The Escort X50 has front and back facing detectors as well. I'm thanking that it would be better if you could attach the rear facing one on the back of the bike but (to bad it's part of the detector housing.

Escort has front and rear laser sensors but only Valentine has front and rear radar antennas as well.

I have an Escort X50 and have been very happy with it and only have the KA and Laser bands turned on.
However over the last few weeks the laser band has been going off for no apparent reason both in the car and on the bike, even miles away from anywhere.
Has anyone else had this problem or do I need to get it checked out and if so where is the best place to take it.

    Cheers
