I'm supposing you meant "if they CAN'T see a cop car...?

But yeah your right, how much attention to their driving do they have?

In the 'old' days these type of people would have walked right into the tigers jaws, we don't have no improvement of the herds these days....Darwins probably spinning in his grave.

One of the main things I've noticed since having a radar detector is that I've become much more aware of my speed. As soon as there is the slightest beep from it I immediately look at my speedo. In the 4 months I've had it there are very few times that it has saved me getting a ticket, but even once is worth it. I generally find that either I'm not speeding when I see a cop, or I see any cops before they operate their radar.

One thing I would like to ask though. At what distance does the radar lock on to various types of vehicle eg large truck, average sized cage, Cruiser bike, sprot bike etc?

yer i meant if they cant see a cop car, as dover said they light up like a vietnam village covered in napalm, undercover cars i don't agree with i got done for 70 in a 50 with no other cars around a undercover cop was sitting on a side street just off st Luke's hiding really badly I mean sure i was doing 70 in a 50 but i was driving to the conditions no other cars on the roads and it was sunny as... i just don't think undercover is the right way to go about things, but then i have slowed down because of it as i have 35demerit points left or something so i guess they achieved their mission to get more money...

Rest assured, I WASN'T 'undercover' and I wasn't just inside the 70kph area, I was in as plain view as you could get.

Speeding is speeding, you do it and be prepared to pay - sometimes you're stopped by guys like me - and sometimes by guys that take no prisoners, THAT is the gamble!!

BTW IF I ever got stopped for speeding (doubtful) and 'they' knew what I did for a job things would not be good for me, 'nuff said.

Yes I realise you weren't undercover you don't sound like one of the may gay cops out there, I must say i was impressed with the men and women in blue on friday night I was eating burger fuel in westernpark when i saw a guy get bottled for no reason then get his head kicked in a few times rang 111 the dozy bitch on the phone was retarded but about 6 cars turned up couldn't believe it. they got the guys and the victim was taken to hospital...

Meh, can't say for sure as the radar does not have a distance indicator, all I know is that one day when stationary I 'clocked' a guy for speed at a long distance, after I dealt with him (he was in a smaller cage) I set the trip meter and drove to where I 'clocked' him ( a prominent rise in the road) and it was no less than 1.7 km away. (and he was the only car on the road at that time so I KNOW it was him)

That is not the norm but it shows what the range CAN be.
Bikes? a whole lot shorter I'd say.
BTW watch it on the Glenore straight on SH8 - that's where I was.

Unfortunately Stupidity has a survival trait. The buggers breed faster and produce more offspring Like rabbits and cockroaches, they can afford higher fatalities cause there are more of them.

Back to the radar. In the Sates (I read somewhere, but could be all shite) you have to be within, I think, a 1/4 of a mile of the cop before they can legally book you for speeding (for the radars reading to be accepted as being accurate in a court hearing). What is the legal distance for NZ?

I can't comment on the distances for different types of vehicle but larger vehicles obviously are better at reflecting radar than smaller vehicles. Sports cars and motorcycles may not be picked up as far away as a large truck or bus. However I have found that terrain and weather conditions have a greater effect on range than variations in shapes and types of vehicle.

No particular distance - there is no measuring device on radars, only lasers have them, as I said earlier I got a "tax payer" (Lou-speak) at 1.7km.

In good ol' NZ radar is 100% accurate to infinity and you don't even need to have clocked the same vehicle you are booking

With multiple vehicles approaching, with radar how do distinguish "beyond reasonable doubt" who the "perp" is.

If they have Chromes, they are guilty.
If they have a blow off valve, they are guilty.
If they have a lowered car, they are guilty.
If they have a loud exhaust, they are guilty.
If they have therecap on sideways, they are guilty.

But in reality unless they had a moving antenna, or phased array it is unlikely they would have any indication of which vehicle it is.
