Too big for a CBR600RR?

Am looking for a bit of advice...

I went and sat on a CBR600RR the other day to 'test sit' one of the three bikes I'd like to buy next year. The 600RR was at the top of my list because the '06 model is most like it's '05 counterpart. (Unlike the GSXR750 which has gone a bit 'soft' for my liking).

Anyway, I've never sat on a proper sports bike before and found it really small, like really. Felt like I was on top of the front forks, and was looking down the outside of the windsheild, rather than the back/inside which I'm use to. This gave the feeling that I was way too far forward, but the seating arrangement doesn't permit much forward/back adjustment.

Also got the impression that if I did lean down on the tank my helmet would hit the windshield, not cool.

I'm looking for a bit of advice from sport bike riders out there. Is the 600RR a 'small' bike? I'm 6', so am not a giant, but am I too big for this bike?

Saw the 1000RR there, and it does look bigger, longer almost. Maybe this would be a suitable substitue?

No you're not mate, unless you're uncomfortably uncomfortable. I've known a guy over 6' that rode a 600RR. Ok - so he was a little cramped. But most 600 sprots bikes are small, and even the litre bikes like the R1 and Gixxer feel tiny to me these days.

Take it for a test ride. Then decide.

Hi Aaron I've got a 05 CBR 6 Hundy. You have to like the weight over the front wheel feel of the CBR 1st. I'm 5'9" and do use all the seat space but only at a race track. For Weekend fanging I usually sit forward and never touch the back of the seat. The CBR1000 has an almost 25% larger feel to it. Definitly slower steering but only in real tight going. Big Step up from the GSX250 in grunt for the Thou though. Get a good ride on the 600 before you decide and the Kawasaki 636 as well. The Kawa is a better road bike than the Honda unless you demand a race style set up. The CBR 600 is one cool bike all the same but narrowlly focussed. Have fun choosing your next set of wheels dude. :spudflip:

Is there a motorcycle company that makes 'bigger' bikes? Like some shoe companies specialise in wide or long styled shoes?

The CBR1000 has an almost 25% larger feel to it. Definitly slower steering but only in real tight going. Big Step up from the GSX250 in grunt for the Thou though. Get a good ride on the 600 before you decide and the Kawasaki 636 as well. The Kawa is a better road bike than the Honda unless you demand a race style set up.

I'd not really thought about 1 litre bikes, mostly due to the increased petrol consumption, but for another $1500-2000, it's a big step up, I might pop back tomorrow and have a sit on the 1000

I'm not familiar with the 636, (I don't think), is that the R6? I do like the style of the ZX10, my god that's a sexy bike, but haven't seen one up close yet.

You would probably find the litre bikes use LESS gas than a 600 unless you were riding to the bike's potential (doubt that on the road)
636 is Kawasaki....R6 is Yamaha.....don't get too close to a ZX10 unless it's restrained

I used to have a CBR250 before I bought the 636. The CBR felt like you're right inside the bike, almost built into it.. it's tiny.. Was great.

I sat on the 636 for the first time (the 03/04 636 is one of the physically largest bikes for it's type) and it just feels like you're sat on top of a monster truck (and the grunt to boot). It was one of the best deals around, and I just loved to look at it, plus you're never 'just stuck with it', so I could have flicked it on 6 months down the track if I couldn't get used to it. I sat on a few other bikes too, and eventually, I'm now used to the style of the 636, and find CBR250s strange to ride again. I also rode a few other 600s and I have ridden a few thous too. All of them if you stuck them in a big bucket, are roughly the same position, cos they're all designed for the same purpose. But then they all have their slight differences. Go sit on everything you can find (forget what you already know, or think you know) and see which feels the best 'ok' for you..

It'll also depend on how tall you are too. Cos a 4" guy isn't getting on a 636, but then a 7" dude is gonna be real cramped on a wee CBR250 - sorta thing. Just try what you can, then ride the ones that fit the best. And don't fret it, they're all awesome machines.

Take into account the engine size of the machine you're coming off too.. It's not the best thing to jump straight onto a thou, cos it fits a little better. People have done it, it's just not the best thing for everyone. Try all the 600s first before increasing to the thous

Nah 6ft is the perfect size for a 600rr, 6ft person on a rs125 and then you're getting into the slightly cramped zone.

Get the Gixxer, I've found it the most comfortable of all the 600s I've ridden. The ZX-6R was great, but the bars are very close to the rider, you get the feeling you're siting upright too much and are still cramped.

Pulls like a bus load of schoolboys however.

Oh, to find a bike (other than a kid's one) that was too SMALL!!! I can't even get close to touching the ground on a CBR600!

Soft might have been misinterpreted... I mean the lines, fairings, they've been softened up a bit, rounded if you will. I'm also not a big fan of the piecemeal fairings.
