Was quite good actually having a central meeting place.Meet up with mates, look over any new bikes, tell a few tall ones, arrange rides for the weekend. All good fun. Pity there isn't a recognised cafe or some such nowdays for bikers to drop in at. I suppose in a way this forum has taken the place of the old friday night meetings.
Ah,friday nights in Auckland,I pity the kids hanging around Malls, late night shopping was a real scene. We would cruise the bike shops first, getting parts or accessories, checking out the new bikes, meeting other riders, checking out their rides outside the shop. Then into Queen St and park up outside 246,meet people, find and swap parts - ''Dirtbeard has got a complete 9 stud top end if you want it,he's looking for an A10 gearbox if you have one to spare'' Very seldom was money exhanged,it was where parts were swapped and word of bikes for sale spread.Inside was a record shop where you bought Deep Purple In Rock for $4.75,there was a coffee bar and the chick who served you with sassy remarks is still one of my best friends more than 30 yrs later.
