Is this the equivalent of boy racer-ing, but on two wheels?

Are you fully aware of how silly your idea sounds?

Who the hell rides around the inner city for fun?

Exactly... I do that too.. waterfront is my favourite place to go and then some of the 'backroads' around st helliers... some nice twisties if you know where to look.

Beats sitting on the net or sitting at home when you ain't out at night.

nothing wrong with an inner city ride... been organised before and done before... good to have a change

the weather tonight looks kinda crappy though... and you should take into consideration that riders on learners and restricted can't ride past a certain time...
I'm not a complete idiot... some pieces are missing

True I suppose, for some. I just can't imagine bumbling around town when I could be out on a highway somewhere rejoicing in the lack of traffic.

Forgot about that. And I guess you all need to soak up one another's mutual support, sympathy and all that. Like the guys on the big fast bikes and their jerk-off contests, except with the learners it's a reverse-trash-talk contest ("I'm so slow" "no, I'm slow" "no no, I'm even slower than that").

This, BTW is not a new concept. Over 30 years ago, all (almost all) the bikers in Auckland used to head into the city on Friday night. Ride round a bit, and hang out outside the milk bars and square off with the boi-racers of the day.

Was quite good actually having a central meeting place.Meet up with mates, look over any new bikes, tell a few tall ones, arrange rides for the weekend. All good fun. Pity there isn't a recognised cafe or some such nowdays for bikers to drop in at. I suppose in a way this forum has taken the place of the old friday night meetings.

    Same in Newcastle and Perth.

I regularly complain that there is no 'Biker Bar' in Auckland.
I enjoy a 'hang out' every now and again. game of push sticks and laughing too loud etc.
    Might see youse later.

Yea, Dad used to tell me stories of hanging out with his bike mates outside the bike shops on the Port Hills end of Manchester Street in ChCh on a Saturday night back in the 70's.
Manchester Street tho... maybe he had other ideas? lol

Some days I just don't like people. Other days I like them even less.

The internet is great for letting that part of me hang out. I do hope I'm not causing you any bother by doing so.

Which guy at Colemans are you?

Ah,friday nights in Auckland,I pity the kids hanging around Malls, late night shopping was a real scene. We would cruise the bike shops first, getting parts or accessories, checking out the new bikes, meeting other riders, checking out their rides outside the shop. Then into Queen St and park up outside 246,meet people, find and swap parts - ''Dirtbeard has got a complete 9 stud top end if you want it,he's looking for an A10 gearbox if you have one to spare'' Very seldom was money exhanged,it was where parts were swapped and word of bikes for sale spread.Inside was a record shop where you bought Deep Purple In Rock for $4.75,there was a coffee bar and the chick who served you with sassy remarks is still one of my best friends more than 30 yrs later.
