Well actually one did sadly. Indian Larry died doing a stunt after taping of the GBB show had finished for the day. Got the wobbles, fell off and died later from head injuries. He wasnt wearing a helmet....

Come into AMPS and check out the Shift kevlar jeans. Better fit than Draggins and MUCH cheaper.

Good for comfort, shit in an "off" though... Heard about a fella who had an off on the way down to the Cold Kiwi wearing a pair of these, and he got gravel rash real bad...the photos on the thread say it all for you really...ride in good gear or not???

im mainly a commuter, would it be stupid to buy a one piece race suit?, i might start racing soon, but it might be a hassle having to change every time i went somewhere. does anyone use a one piece, but wears clothes over top, thats what i was thinking of doing (just to go to the dairy, and so on)
i wear a one piece most of the time, other wise a leather jacket and jeans. the one piece is good, but it's heavy, and hard to store in a small place. the jacket (has zip off pants which i occasionally use) is good as it can fit over the back of a chair. i can fit jeans and shirt under the jacket/pants combo, too.

picked the jacket/pants combo up off tardme for $350, wear it with a pair of doc boots. the violators are around $800, and suit race boots/gloves etc. (all up about $1300)

I've got a couple of pairs of draggin jeans and they're excellent. If you ride a sportsbike you may find some thicker jeans gather inside the back of the knee when riding causing discomfort so check this out before buying, however, the cargo style are very comfy.

Have also "tested" them with a 70km lowside and was impressed with then. Ripped open the denim at the knee but the kevlar stood up well... only received a little bruising.

Before you buy them, try them on and ensure the kevlar starts above the top of your knees in a riding position, I've seen the results of the kevlar padding sitting too low and it's nasty. Tried on the shift jeans and although I love the style (and the price), The kevlar only starts half way up the knee... and therefore IMHO I wouldn't recommend them......

You get what you pay for.... how much is your arse worth???
Go the Draggins, you won't be disappointed.

    Damn kinda sobering aint it?
Cause with the warmer weather coming you get kinda lax about gear & short distances.
Know a dude who thoought he'd shoot off for the morning paper, had shorts & jandals, dog shot out & he pranged causing much grazing & a jandal splitting his foot down the middle.

I have a leather jacket which I've worn for a good few years now - some of the stitching is in need of repair (around pocket and collar). Also Nazran Cordura pants with armor in the knees and padding around the hips.

I'd like to get another leather jacket and some pants but not sure what to go with yet. I do a lot of riding – commuting to work everyday and touring.

Has anyone heard of these guys Rokewa Deerskin Leathers

The leathers look okay but the price is steep but I guess you get what you pay for. Any comments KBr's?

On another note... just a random idea... but wouldn't it be a good thing if KB members could somehow raise some money, get some sponsorship and a deal for some quality leathers that KB could brand and offer them to newbies at say, half price, or something. There are a lot of new motorcyclists who buy a bike and then can't afford to get the riding gear (I was one of them). Sounds backward but that's the way it seems to happen for a lot of us.

    Cheers.

    Ouch, that doesn't look neat.

Very comfy, but not warm nuff for cold weather. and useless in the wet! They look good too!
But I still like the hard armour in my R Jays......

    ouch....very sobering pics!

when i first got into bikes...first thing i did was hit my local savemart for leathers...this was before i even got my license. i didnt buy till i found a jacket that was perfect and a couple of spares. i also managed to score a good pair of leather pants for $30 from the same place that are baggy enough to fit my jeans underneath and still have room to breath. i also wear leather cowboy boots that come halfway up my lower leg and have steel caps in the toes, courtesy of my partner overseas.
savemart are usually cheaper for newbie riders in terms of leathers, and with enough hunting they will eventually have exactly what your looking for.

Great idea sunhuntin! I didn't think of alternatives such as this, although what's the quality like?

groins...the quality is basically what you have the patience to look for. im sure my leathers have had a scrape or two while on another body, but i havent seen any sign of this. im fussy when it comes to leathers too....i might like the look of a jacket, but it wont be proper biker style, so i wont get it. i wont buy until im certain thats best im likely to get in the time frame set. my jacket ive had for about 2-3 years and worn it virtually daily since. it is the only one ill wear on the bike when im riding solo, whereas riding pillion ill swap it for another more dressy leather.

basically...the quality, ive found so far, is basically as good as what youd buy new for a fraction of the cost. NOTE::: savemart has a weekly 50% off sale off a certain color price tag. theres generally a sign out front which says which color is reduced that week. makes things easier on the wallet!
