    Arrow Rimutaka Hills (now Open) and Desert Rd CLOSED - plus other places effected.

    I tried to find the section on Road conditions on this site and couldnt find it to put all this information into.

    Just added in a update.... Rimutaka now OPEN

    So please be careful out there on the roads.

    Location of incident: Central/Lower North Island.

    Incident Type: Update :Road closures due to inclement Weather: Central Nth Island
    Following is an update of the Roads that have been closed due to inclement weather and road conditions:
    SH 1 - Desert Road - Turangi to Taihape
    SH 4 - Taumaranui to Raetahi
    SH 47 - National Park to Turangi
    SH49 - Ohakune to Waiouru.
    Efforts are being made by Road Maintainence crews to use bulldozers to clear the roads but this is becoming increasingly difficult.
    Again it is strongly recommended that road travel in these areas be avoided tonight unless absolutely unavoidable.

    Incident Type: Road Closure StateHighway 1 and 4 central North Island.

    State Highway 1 (Desert Road) and SH4(Ohakune - Waiouru) - These roads have been closed due to poor weather and road conditions.

    Location of incident: Normanby,Hawera,Wanganui,Marton areas and particularly roads South of Waiouru

    Incident Type: Hail and sleet in central Nth Island Areas

    Normanby,Hawera,Wanganui,Marton areas and particularly roads South of Waiouru experiencing hail storms, sleet and ice on the roads. It would be advisable for people to restrict their travels in these areas tonight. Those who are travelling to be careful and drive to what the conditions dictate. Roads are not closed as yet but this may change later, dependant on the conditions.

    I drove through Desert Rd today at about 1pm and it was sleeting. I saw some guys touring and I thought, "You poor bastards". Wet and cold and the road would be super slippery. Looks like the ski fields are going to get some great snow.

    Location of incident: Update SH2 Rimutakas,Wellington

    Incident Type: Road Re opened.

    Update : SH2 Rimutakas,Wellington. Transit NZ (responsible for Road Maintenance on SH2 Rimutaka`s) have notified Police that this road has been reopenned. They have managed to clear away a Hill side slip that had been caused by the weather conditions. It is recommended that people using this State Highway ensure that they keep listening to these road reports to ensure that they are aware of any currunt updates
